Mr. and Mrs. JUAN JOSE HERRERA ‘Modeling is kind of every little girl’s dream’ BY CARA ANNA Cox News Service You’re an attractive teen from Port St. Lucie. Do you: a.) get chosen from 20,000 girls for a chance to be Seventeen magazine’s covergirl? b.) fly to New York c.) meet the guitarist for Garbage d.) all of the above. Allison Willis has brown eyes, but she brought green ones (contacts) just in case. She also brought her blanky and a reminder to not chew her nails. Models shouldn’t chew their nails. And Allison, 16, was about to play one. Seventeen magazine chose the Port St. Lucie, Florida, teen as one of eight finalists for its New Model of the Year contest and flew her to New York this month. Seventeen, known for its highschool focus and its monthly quizzes (August: “Are you a gutsy girl?”), looked through about 20,000 entries. Some girls sent glamour pics. Some sent photos from their portfolios. Allison sent a blurry snapshot taken by her friend, who leaned in too close while they were watching an off-off-Broadway show last year and caught Allison with toilet paper on her head. It worked.
