You need to create a RealMe login the first time you
use our services.
If you don’t have a RealMe login, click on the
RealMe ‘Create account’ icon under FIRST-TIME
STUDENTS on the right hand side of the screen.
Click on the RealMe ‘Login’ and continue to
‘Create your RealMe login now’.
Find out what else you can do with your RealMe account
at www.realme.govt.nz.
REMEMBER You only need to create one login. Make
sure that you remember your username and password so
you can use them when you login next time.

– Select ‘Tertiary’ for
your study level.
– Select ‘No’ to applying for
a postgraduate qualification.

Assistance while studying

if you don’t receive payments
from Work and Income.

– Don’t tick any of the boxes
if you don’t receive payments

You need to have your bank account and Inland
Revenue numbers with you.
Select

and click ‘Apply Online’.
Make
sure you read and understand your
obligations before you click on ‘Agree’.
When
you’re ready, submit your application
and then log out.

won’t have one yet.
Extramural
– Select ‘Yes’ if you plan to
study via correspondence
and not attend class.
Address start date
– Enter today’s date.
What is your tax code?
– Most students need to
use ‘M SL’.
Tax code start date
– Enter today’s date.
STUDENT LOAN SECTION
Alternative contact person
– Enter their first name, last
name, address details and
contact number.
Bank account start date
– Enter today’s date.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
We’ll send you a letter once we’ve processed your
application. Please remember to check, correct and
update any details that we ask you to, and provide the
evidence we need which includes the following:
• your birth certificate or passport
• your passport or citizenship papers (if you weren’t born
in New Zealand)
• a pre-printed deposit slip from your bank
• a pre-printed letter or notice from Inland Revenue.
We may also need more information about your income,
partner’s income, parent(s) income if under 24 and
any accommodation and/or disability costs.
If you’re providing a copy of original documentation,
each page needs to be verified. If you send an original
document we will return it to you by courier. If you
don’t give us all the information we need we can’t
pay you on time.
