Student Council Elections 2015 Speech & Poster Guidelines Speeches and posters will be presented to a panel of teachers from various grade levels. The teachers will use the following rubrics to score your speech and your campaign poster. Officers will be decided by the panel of teachers and the scores that are earned on each element. The recommendations that you received from your teachers will also be taken into consideration. Good Luck! Speech Rubric Introduction Content Deliver Conclusion 4 The speech began with a clear picture of what makes you a good leader and got the attention of the audience in a way that was unique. The body of the speech describes in detail how you have contributed to student council as related to our 5 guiding principles this year and the impact that you have made. The speaker spoke in a loud, clear voice and was expressive and enthusiastic. The conclusion clearly describes a plan of how you will make changes that relate to our 5 guiding principles next year and impact West Wing School 3 The speech began with what makes you a good leader, but did not catch the attention of the audience in a unique way. 2 The speech lacked what makes you a good leader and didn’t catch the attention of the audience 1 The speech didn’t have an introduction at all. The body of the speech describes what you have done for student council as related to our 5 guiding principles, but lacks a connection to the impact that you have had this year. The speaker was loud and clear, but didn’t show enthusiasm and expression. The conclusion describes a plan of how you will impact West Wing, but does not have a connection to our 5 guiding principles. The speech lacks the contribution that you made to student council and there is no mention of the impact to student council as related to our 5 guiding principles that you had this year. The speech doesn’t have a body at all. The speaker was hard to hear at times and was not expressive or enthusiastic. The speech lacks a conclusion that describes how you will change student council and is not aligned to our 5 guiding principles. The audience could not hear or understand the speaker. The speech abruptly stops and has no conclusion. Please remember to practice your speech many times so that you only have to look down at your notes occasionally during your speech. Memorizing the entire speech is not mandatory, but you should know your speech well enough to make good eye contact with the audience. Poster Rubric 4 Organization 3 You've Got My Vote! Creative, eye-catching layout with a dominant slogan and the right amount of information (not too much to read or too little to be convincing) with a balance between text and graphics. The campaign is effective in its argument. Poster Planning and Preparation You've Got My Vote! Student identifies two creative and innovative solutions to the artistic problem of combining pictures to create a campaign poster. Word Choice and Conventions Great Plan! Still Deciding Well balanced organization of layout. Poster has appropriate amount of information (balance between text and graphics). Info is easy to follow. Great Plan! Still Deciding Student produces an effective poster which clearly communicates opinions and information. The campaign is somewhat effective but could be more so. Great Plan!
