His research shows how state-of-the-art geographic information systems (GIS), used to display patterns of crime to stimulate effective strategies and decisionmaking, are revolutionizing urban law enforcement. “Thanks to CompStat, a statistical tool, police officials have been able to access data previously store in many police stations in the city and have been able to react quickly.” October 26, 2012 - 8:00am - 5:00pm. Discussions will examine the critical role engineers play in the social and economic development of cities and their ever-increasing importance in the area of policymaking.
