Want to be
a tutor?
The application is on until Wed 21 March 2012!
Tutors tasks:
The tutors bring new students as a part of the academic society in the Aalto University and in the School of Arts,
Design and Architecture (ARTS), familiarize them with the study environment and practices, and make them
feel cosy and welcome. In addition, tutors assist new students (especially international students) with arranging
practical issues such as matters related to immigration, finding one’s way in Helsinki (and Espoo), Finnish study
culture and Finnish culture in all. Tutors also arrange events for new students (for example fuksiaiset) and are
their support person.
The tutoring includes:
Tutor training for all tutors in Aalto University is organized in the weeks 15 & 16 (Friday 20.4. in English), and
tutor training for ARTS related issues on a date published later. The actual tutoring takes place in the fall: the tutors are an essential part of the orientation (from Monday 20 August to Wednesday 22 August 2012) and they guide and support the new students especially at the beginning of studies. When possible, tutors are encouraged to
meet their international students already on arrival at the airport/harbour and, if needed, pick up their keys from
HOAS (or other) beforehand. Tutoring requires commitment both to the trainings and helping new students at
the beginning of their studies.
What tutoring gives you:
Tutoring gives you experience of giving guidance in a multicultural setting. The tutors get experience on how to
manage a group and share information. The tutors are provided with a monetary compensation and also a tutor
diploma for work done. In addition, they’ll have a chance to get new friends, even for a lifetime!
