About the Book The ships of the world are under attack, attacks so sudden and vicious that many ships are lost without a single distress call. The navies of the world start a frenzied search, but even these ships disappear without a trace. Enter the Event Group, the most secret organization in U.S. history. Armed with proof that history is repeating itself, the Group finds themselves in the grasp of an insane genius straight out of the pages of Jules Verne. They are up against the descendent of the man who was the inspiration for the captain of a vessel known to the world as Nautilus. Legend comes to life in the form of Leviathan, the most advanced undersea vessel in history. She will stop at nothing to save the seas and to render justice to humankind for a world that has long been dying, a world Leviathan plans to alter forever, unless the Event Group can stop her! About the Author David L. Golemon is the author of the Event Group Thrillers, including Event, Ancients, and Primeval. Legend, the second book in the series, was nominated for a RITA award for paranormal fiction. Golemon learned an early love of reading from his father, who told him that the written word, unlike other forms, allows readers to use their own minds, the greatest special effects machines of all—an idea Golemon still believes. The only thing he loves more than writing is research, especially historical research, and he sees the subtext of his Event novels as being that understanding history allows us to create a better future. Golemon grew up in Chino, California, and now makes his home in New York. Discussion Questions 1. What role do “second chances” play in the book? What characters in particular are affected by them? 2. Explore the ways in which science and technology are used both to save and to destroy. What overall impression did you get from the portrayal of scientific advances in the book? In your opinion, are they ultimately harmful or helpful? 3. Based on what we see happen to her grandfathers in the opening chapters of the book, do you think that Alexandria was a victim of fate? If not, what drove her to pursue the path that she took, and what accounts for her failures? 4. How does the past influence the present events of the novel? Would the story have the same weight if the author had not included the Deveroux and Heirthall family histories? How does literary history influence the telling of this particular story and the work of this author? 5. There are many “bad guys” who appear over the course of the novel, but is there one you would characterize as “the villain”? Who is really the enemy of the Event Group? 6. Love and loss both figure prominently into the lives of the characters. Who is especially touched by their experience with one or both themes? How do these two themes affect the action of the book?
