New Student Orientation
Blackboard Instructions Summer 2014
Step 1: Finding Blackboard
To find Blackboard go to http://classes.emory.edu
Please note that while Blackboard can be viewed using all major web browsers (Internet Explorer,
Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari) some of our interactive content has trouble displaying as
intended with Google Chrome. Our recommendation is to view our content in Mozilla Firefox.)
Step 2: Logging In (and assistance for Log-In Issues)
When you arrive on the Blackboard Log-in page, log in using your Emory username and password (This is
the same username and password you use to access OPUS)
(If you have lost your username and/or password please contact Library and Information Technology
Services (LITS) – http://it.emory.edu or (404) 727- 7777. Alternatively, you can use the following website
for password reset: https://enid.emory.edu/idm/user/login.jsp)
Step 3: Class of 2018 Splash Page
After you have successfully logged in you will see the page below. (If you do not see the page below
please contact us at ec.orientation@emory.edu and let us know that you do not land on the Class of
2018 Splash Page.)
This page contains links to all of our social media outlets, a copy of the summer calendar and link into
the PACE 101 Summer Orientation Course. The splash page will change periodically over the summer to
highlight important information so please check it regularly. (We’ll try to highlight new content to make
it easier for you to see.)
Step 4: PACE 101 Summer Orientation Course
All of our summer content relating to Academic Life at Emory and Class Registration will be released
through the PACE 101 Summer Orientation Course. The easiest way to access the course is to use the
link provided in the area at the top center of the Class of 2018 Splash Page. Click on the link (as circled in
the image below) and you’ll be taken into the course.
Step 5: Finding Your Way Around The PACE 101 Summer Orientation Course
When you first enter the course you will be taken immediately to our landing page titled
“Announcements”. This page serves a general introduction to the course and will also be where you’ll
sign up for our Webinars and Hangouts when sign-up becomes available. To give you an idea of what the
page will look like, we’ve provided an image below
To access the more substantive content of the course you’ll use the navigation box on the left hand side
of the course. Additional content areas will appear here as we go through the summer.
The first content area is titled “Unit A: Advising Network and the Liberal Arts”. To access the materials
click on the title.
Step 6: Content Access
Upon entering each until you will be presented with a summary of what is covered in each unit and a list
of folders. Each folder contains information in a variety of formats- video, graphics, text and sometimes
activities for you to complete. We estimate that each Unit will take around 30 minutes to complete.
Below you can see what the first content area looks like. Each title on the list is actually clickable and will
take you to the content.
Step 7: Keeping Track of Where You Are
You’ll be exposed to a lot of content this summer in the Blackboard course and it can be quite confusing
to keep track of where you are. We wanted to highlight some of the ways to get back to where you
started within Blackboard.
If you ever need to get back to the Splash
Page for the Class of 2018 you can always
click on the tab on the top navigation bar.
If you are in the PACE 101 Summer Orientation Course and you need to
get to a specific area of the course you can always use the left navigation
to get you to the specific unit you want to go. Note that
“Announcements” on the left navigation bar is the equivalent of the
Course Home Page.
If you are inside a specific unit of the Blackboard
course and want to go back to a previous section then
the best way to do so is to use the “Breadcrumbs” at
the top of the course page. For example, if I was in the
Liberal Arts at Emory folder within Unit A and want to
go back to the top level Unit A folder, I could do so by
clicking the previous section title as shown above.
Please note that some content will open in a new tab/window—for example some YouTube videos. By
closing this new tab/window you should be back in the previous view.
