Parking There are several options available for students enrolled in classes at Life Sciences Institute at BioPark. In order to take advantage of these options, students must have a student parking permit. Permits A parking permit is for the academic year and can be purchased on the parking website at www.parkingmaryland.edu, click on students and follow the links. The permit can also be purchased in person at the Parking and Commuter Services office located at 622 W. Fayette Street on the UMB campus. Students must display a valid permit when parking in the student garage. Students must show their valid vehicle registration and campus ID or when purchasing a permit in person. Permits cost $5.00 and can be paid by cash, check or credit card. The daily cost to park is $5.00. Coupons Students may purchase parking coupons one at a time or in books from the Parking and Commuter Services Office. Coupon books contain 10 at $50.00 per book and students may purchase as many as 4 books of coupons at a time. Coupons are not transferrable; they must be used in conjunction with the parking permit of the purchaser. Cash, check or credit card is accepted by the Parking and Commuter Services Office. Places to Park Students may use their parking coupons and parking permit to park at Lexington Garage. Lexington Garage The Lexington Garage is the UMB student parking garage and is located at 660 W. Lexington Street. Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. A parking space is not a guarantee. BioPark Garage The BioPark Garage is located across Martin Luther King Blvd. There are 200 spaces available on a first-come, first-served basis each month at a rate of $100 per month. Students must pay a $10.00 deposit for the access card. The deposit is returned when the access card is returned at the end of the parking period for which the student has paid. The costs can be paid by cash, check or credit card. Lexington Market Roof Spaces are leased to students to park on the rooftop of the Lexington Market Garage located between Greene and Paca Streets. Parking at this garage costs $33.00 per month and payment must be received in advance. Students are given an access card. Payment for parking is renewed by the first of each month. Payment received by the sixth of the month will be charged a $5.00 late fee. Access cards are turned off on the seventh if payment has not been received. It cost $10.00 to have the access card reactivated. Other UMB Parking Facilities After 4 p.m. on weekdays, students who have already paid for parking in Lexington Garage may move their vehicle to any other garage (if so desired) without having to pay for parking again. You must keep your payment stub and turn it in at the 2nd garage to avoid paying. Sign your name and permit number on the receipt or ticket from Lexington Garage and give it to the cashier when exiting the 2nd garage. Evening students arriving on campus after 4 p.m. on weekdays and all weekend may park in any facility and pay the student rate of $5.00 when displaying a valid student permit. All students must remove their cars by 9 a.m. or you will be considered a visitor and charged the maximum visitor rate. A: Housed at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) BioPark, the biomedical research complex on its downtown graduate school campus at 801 West Baltimore Street (building two), the Baltimore City Community College Life Sciences Institute (LSI) is uniquely positioned to meet science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce development needs of Maryland’s growing bioscience industry, prepare students for highdemand careers in the bio/medical field, and to help Maryland become a national leader, and globally competitive, through STEM-based economic growth and job creation. A: Yes Q: Will there be student services offered like admissions, financial aid, registration, etc.? A: Yes. A generalist will be available two days a week to provide basic information and services in a variety of student service areas. Students will be able to apply for admissions, register, apply for financial aid and take care of practically all business. However, bill payment will be available only at the Liberty Campuses, unless students choose to pay on-line with a credit card. Q: Do I get an identification badge from BCCC or UMB or both? A: Students must acquire a student ID badge from both BCCC and UMB. To get a BCCC ID, you must be registered for classes and then visit the Office of Public Safety at either the Liberty or Harbor Campus to receive your card. At UMB, students must visit the One Card Office to acquire a UMB One Card. Again, after you have registered for classes and are registered in the UMB SIS database, you must take a picture ID to the One Card Office to receive your UMB One Card. Q: Are there computer labs available for student use at the BCCC Life Sciences Institute? A: Yes. Q: Will there be shuttle service between the BCCC campuses and the BioPark? A: No. Maryland Transit Authority (MTA) provides several bus routes convenient for travel to and from the BCCC campuses and the BioPark, which include the following Metro Subway Stations: Mondawmin (near the Liberty Campus) to Lexington Market (near the BioPark) to Shot Tower (near the Harbor Campus), and bus lines 7, 91, and 27 on the west side; 1, 10, 61, and 64 downtown; and, 5, 8, 19, and 36 on the east side. Effective August 2009, the City provides a FREE shuttle called the Charm City Circulator to get around downtown Baltimore. The Circulator will include 21 clean-energy buses and three convenient routes, arriving every ten minutes with service seven days a week. The first route, started in mid-August, runs along Pratt and Lombard streets from the University of Maryland BioPark at Baltimore Street on the west side to Central Avenue at Inner Inner Harbor East.
