Carson Campus orientations are held in the Library Instruction Room/Lab (201) and last 50-75 minutes, depending on the instructor’s wishes. Contact Danna Sturm at 445-3223 or Ron Belbin at 423-5330 x2244 for more information. A link to the orientation request form is available on the library web site under Faculty & Staff. Course Reserves (Assigned Readings, Extra Textbooks, Etc.) Print Reserves: The Reserve Collection, located behind the library's front desk, consists of course materials placed in the library by faculty for a particular class. Reserve materials may include: journal articles, sample research papers, answer keys, textbooks, videos, or CDs. These items are placed on limited loan periods ranging from a "2-hr in-library use only" to a 7-day check out, depending on the instructor's request. No holds or renewals may be placed on reserve items. All the items placed on reserve are listed in the library catalog under the instructor's name as well as the class name. Electronic Reserves: Faculty may ask the library staff to locate electronic copies of articles or scan reading materials which are then posted on the college website under http://wildcats.wnc.edu. Students and faculty use the same login used to access the library databases and/or Westnet. Having documents online allows students to view or print information 24/7 without having to visit the library in person. For more information, contact: Larry Calkins (e- reserves) at 445-3224; Erich Holcombe (print reserves - Carson City Campus) at 445-3228; or Ron Belbin (print and e- reserves) Beck Library, Fallon Campus 423-5330 x2244. More information can be found at http://library.wnc.edu/faculty/course_reserves.html. WNC Videos/DVDS The Carson and Fallon Campuses maintain a collection of over 4,000 videos for the use of WNC instructors. Any faculty member can request videos for preview or in-class use. Videos may be borrowed from either campus and sent to any WNC teaching location. Videos can be located by searching the library catalog for your topic. After locating the item, faculty can reserve it for use on a specific day using the DVD/Video Request Form available on the library web site under the faculty link. (Faculty must use their college user name and password to access the form.) Videos that are housed at another campus library should be reserved at least one week in advance of its desired use. The library staff will confirm requests through e-mail. If the item is on the same campus where faculty teach, faculty should come to the library circulation desk to pick it up when needed. Requesting DVDs & Videos from the University Of Nevada, Reno WNC faculty may also borrow videos/DVDs from the University of Nevada, Reno. They can be located using the library catalog. Requests for UNR media must be made at least two weeks prior to the intended date of use using the DVD/Video Request Form. The more lead time provided, the greater the likelihood that the item will be available on the date requested. The Library will confirm requests via e-mail as soon as they are received and processed. Faculty will be notified when the items arrive in the library for them to pick up. If viewing equipment is needed, it can be ordered using the Equipment Request Form. All of these forms are available under the “Faculty & Staff” link on the library web site. MEDIA SERVICES Media Services supports the WNC curriculum by purchasing media equipment and other audio-visual materials. They also provide copying services for items that accompany WNC classroom-related materials and textbooks. Faculty may request computer projection equipment, DVD players, and other equipment for use in their classrooms using the Equipment Request Form under the faculty link on the library web site. Equipment Requests Media equipment may be loaned to college personnel for instructional purposes including: computers, computer projection units, video and digital cameras, video/DVD players and recorders, and other types of equipment. A 24-hour notice is required to ensure that the equipment is available and can be delivered on the requested date. Equipment should be requested using the online Equipment Request Form available under the “Faculty & Staff” link on the library web site. Recording & Duplicating Services Duplicating services are provided to college personnel with a minimum 48 hour notice. This includes recording students or faculty members in a classroom and performers at college events. In some classes, CDs supplement a textbook. Media Services will duplicate these CDs (if given sufficient lead time). Class related copying is free. Students only need to provide a blank replacement for each item copied. Copyright permission must be obtained in writing prior to copying. 8/19/2014 Services Directory (CC = Carson City Campus, F = Fallon Campus) If you are calling the Beck Library (Fallon Campus) from off campus, dial (775) 423-5330, then ask for the extension.
