The Teacher - Engineering Mechanical Trades primary objective is to:



Teach theory and practical (competency based) subjects to pre-apprentice, apprentice,
technician and post trade level.
Conduct RPL assessments, skills analysis and career progression plans for the
manufacturing industry and or individuals.
Assist in the development and delivery of new programs and assessment methods within
the Engineering mechanical trade & advanced technician areas including toolmaking,
fitting, CNC programing, CAD design etc.
Develop courseware and assessments and maintain teaching material and training aids.
Participate in the Institute and AE&S department strategic and business plans meeting the
vocational and non-vocational needs of the Engineering industry, its students and the
community in general.

Assist senior educators and staff in a range of activities associated with the effective
operation of the Aviation, Engineering and Security education programs and its strategic
objectives;
Plan, deliver and assess the theory and practical requirements of the Aviation, Engineering
and Security Department related subjects and training packages and customized industry
programs as directed by the Manager and/or Assistant Manager;
Assist in the development of teaching area unit objectives, and ensure those objectives are
met through the work plan process;
Develop and implement programs and industry short courses that leads to increases in fee
for service work for the department;
Be responsible for preparing, conducting and assessing education programs and ensure the
standards are AQTF compliance;
Participate in the Department's continuing review of course content, and methods of
student assessment that provides optimal student learning and learning opportunities
and ensuring up-to-date quality courses and learning materials;
Undertake duties associated with pre course advice, the selection and admission of students;
Maintain accurate records of out student results and attendance and address the
requirements of AQTF;
Conduct examinations, and participate in the preparation, correction and assessment of
examination papers, student reports and assignments;
Flexible & Practically-minded in attitude and approach and be willing to participate in the
continued development of this Department.

contents of the Victorian TAFE Teaching Staff MBA 2009.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Qualifications
 An appropriate engineering mechanical trade or technical qualification at Certificate, Diploma or Degree level
 A current Certificate IV Training and Assessment and or accredited qualification in teacher training at AQF5
level which includes a supervised teaching practice and studies in teaching methodology (or equivalent);
Experience
 A demonstrated knowledge of the Engineering Mechanical trade & design & development.
 Demonstrated understanding of the vocational education and training system, particularly apprenticeships,
international students relating to the engineering industry.

Sound understanding of internal RTO processes related to the enrolment, training and assessment of
students, including how timetabling is managed and how funding flows through the organisation.
Solid knowledge of, and rapport with relevant internal and external stakeholders involved with
apprenticeships including teaching staff, employers, Australian Apprenticeship Centres and group training
organisations.
Sound presentation skills
Ability to think strategically and pragmatically.
Ability to demonstrate a self-managed and independent approach to responsibilities whilst leading or working
within a team.
Desirable




Extensive experience in Computer Aided Drawing packages i.e. Solid Works, Inventor, Auto Desk products,
Turbo Cad
Extensive experience in programming & operating CNC machines
Advanced Diploma, Degree or Post Graduate Qualifications in Engineering Technology
Proficient in word processing using Microsoft office products Word, Excel & Power Point
