Supplemental Instruction
Our Job Is Your Grade!!!
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic
program designed for students who want to
improve their understanding of course material
and develop productive study skills. The SI program provides regularly scheduled, peer-led study
sessions facilitated by a trained SI Leader. The
sessions are available to all students enrolled in
the class at no cost. I will assign, after a class survey, three meeting times per week for SI sessions.
Often I will change a session time during the
semester in order to better accommodate you and
I will also conduct extra sessions near exam time.
Free
small-group study
sessions
in an informal setting
with classmates
SI is an informal opportunity for us as students
to work together to explore important concepts,
review class notes, discuss reading assignments,
practice test taking strategies, and prepare for
examinations. Studies show that students learn
more effectively through small-group sessions
where everyone is free to participate. Students
who attend SI sessions typically earn one half
to one letter grade higher in the course than
those who choose not to attend.
As an SI leader for this class, I will attend the
classes with you, take notes, and complete the
reading and homework assignments just as you
do. By attending each class meeting with you,
I retain a better understanding of the material
covered in each lecture in order to better prepare
you for test reviews, and other class assignments.
I will also take each exam with you (except the
final) in order for us to have post-tests reviews and
brainstorming sessions in which to better prepare
for future exams.
I hope you will consider attending the
SI sessions for this course throughout the
semester and I look forward to getting to
know you and working with you in class!
