Diversity
Philosophy
Diversity, in its most general sense,
involves dealing with the mixture of
similarities and differences among
people.These people may be associates
(employees), customers or members
of the general public.
While diversity is a relatively new
topic for many organizations, it has a
strong supportive foundation in the
Honda Philosophy, which was written
by our Company Founders well over
40 years ago. At the base of the Honda
Philosophy is the principle of Respect
for the Individual. Respect for the
Individual has three basic components
within the Philosophy:
Initiative,
Equality
and Trust
Suppliers
AreImportant
Respect for the Individual
is not limited
to our associates, but also defines the Company’s
relationship to those with whom we do business.
American Honda needs suppliers who provide
products and services, which can help us carry out
our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
The challenge is finding qualified potential suppliers.
Accordingly, we have adopted the following supplier
diversity mission statement:
• Facilitate the introduction of minority and womenowned businesses to American Honda.
• Promote minority and women-owned supplier
development through education programs.
• Support minority and women-owned business
associations.
Supplier Diversity
Program
Managed by our Purchasing Department, the
Supplier Diversity Program gives companies the
opportunity to introduce products or services to
American Honda.
The Program has been effective in giving small,
minority or women-owned businesses the opportunity
to become Honda suppliers. As a result, it has become
a key component of our overall diversity strategy.
Supplier
Development
American Honda suppliers are a critical part
of our business and directly contribute to our ability
to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations.
We look for suppliers who wish to develop a mutually
beneficial relationship and help us find ways to become
more efficient.
American Honda supports the development of small,
minority and women-owned businesses by creating
opportunities for those businesses to provide products
and services, which satisfy our overall purchasing
requirements. Buyer decisions are determined on
competitive prices, on-time delivery and high quality.
The
Supplier
Application
Process
Through the Supplier Application
Process, American Honda’s Purchasing
Department finds out about new
potential suppliers.This is an excellent
opportunity for companies to introduce
themselves to American Honda. If your
company would like to submit an
application, please do the following:
1. Call American Honda’s Purchasing
Department at (310) 783-2155.
2. Request a Supplier Application form.
3. Return the completed Supplier
Application and required supporting
materials to:
AHM Purchasing Department
Mail Stop: 100-1W-4E
1919 Torrance Blvd.
Torrance, CA 90501-2746
During the evaluation process,
information about new potential
suppliers is placed in American Honda’s
supplier database, which is made available
to all American Honda associates.
The database is accessed and may be
used for future projects, as needs arise.
