CLE Area 7: Critical Issues in a Global Context (3 hrs) May be satisfied by either CEE 3104 or 4554. If neither of these courses are selected in the CEE Elective section, an additional course must be taken to satisfy this requirement. Electives The CEE department requires 6 credits of science and engineering science electives from approved lists, 21 hours of fundamental electives from approved list, 12 hours of advanced electives from approved list, and 12 hours of additional electives as follows: 3 hours of non‐CEE at any level, 3 hours of non‐CEE at 3000 or higher level, 3 hours of CEE or any other department at 3000 level or higher, and 3 hours of free elective at any level. Change of Major Requirements: In order to enter this restricted major, students must have: 1) Minimum 2.0 overall Virginia Tech GPA, 2) Minimum grade of C‐ or better in ENGE 1024 and ENGE 1114; 3) Minimum grade of D‐ or better in CHEM 1035, CHEM 1045, ENGL 1105, ENGL 1106, MATH 1205, MATH 1206, and PHYS 2305. NOTE: Students that have completed all of the required coursework and have a 3.0 or higher Virginia Tech GPA are guaranteed this major. Change of Major applications are accepted prior to the beginning of fall, spring, and summer at: http://www.enge.vt.edu/undergraduate/undergraduate‐changing‐majors Foreign Language Requirements: Students must have had 2 years of a foreign language in high school or one year at the college level (6 credit hours) of the same language. College‐level credits used to meet this requirement do not count towards the degree. Satisfactory Progress Towards Degree: University Policy 91 outlines university‐wide minimum criteria to determine if students are making satisfactory progress towards the completion of their degrees. The CEE Department fully supports this policy. Specific expectations for satisfactory progress for Civil Engineering majors are as follows:  Each student must meet the minimum University‐wide criteria as described in Policy 91 and summarized in the Undergraduate Catalog (under Academic Policies)  A 2.5 overall GPA and a 2.5 in‐major GPA must be maintained for continued enrollment in CEE. (The in‐major GPA consists of all courses taken under the CEE designation). Prerequisites: There are no hidden prerequisites in this program of study. Prerequisites may change from what is indicated.
Prerequisites for CEE Fundamentals and Advanced Courses differ for each course. Be sure to consult the University Catalog or check with your advisor for most current requirements. Graduation Requirements: Students must pass all required courses and both the in‐major and overall GPA must be at least 2.0 or graduation. CEE Electives – 33 credits: CEE electives have been arranged to ensure adequate breadth of knowledge and depth of knowledge in your disciplines of interest. Thirty three credits of CEE courses must be selected such that the following four criteria are met:  Complete 7 of the 8 fundamentals courses shown in the table below.  Complete one advanced course in three of the seven specialty areas in which fundamentals courses were selected in (1).  Complete an additional advanced course in one of the three specialty areas in which advanced courses were selected in (2).  Within the choices above, complete at least one design project course (CEE 4014, 4104, 4544, 4274, 4664, 3434, 4654 or 4334).
