Microsoft Word Vocabulary
1. Alignment: The position of text between the margins.
2. Bullet: Any small character that appears before an item in a list.
3. Clip Art: Graphics that are stored in the Clip Organizer or available online that you can
insert in any document.
4. Copy: Selected text remains in its original location and a copy of it is placed on the
Clipboard.
5. Crop: To remove part of a picture.
6. Cut: Selected text is removed from the document and placed on the Clipboard.
7. Font Size: the height of characters in points.
8. Font Style: Emphasis added to fonts such as bold, italics, and underlining.
9. Font: The design of text.
10. Footer: Text that is printed at the bottom of each page.
11. Header: Text that is printed at the top of each page.
12. Insertion Point: A blinking vertical line that shows where text will appear when you
begin typing.
13. Landscape Orientation: A page or worksheet rotated so it is wider than it is tall.
14. Margin: Blank space around the top, bottom, and sides of a page.
15. Paste: To copy an item stored on the Clipboard to a location in a file.
16. Portrait Orientation: A page or worksheet rotated so it is taller than it is wide.
17. Ribbon: Contains commands for working with the document, organized by tabs.
18. Sort: To arrange a list of words or numbers in ascending or descending order.
19. Status Bar: A bar at the bottom of the program window that provides information
about the current file and process.
20. Template: A predesigned file that you can use to create a new file.
21. Thesaurus: Useful feature for finding a synonym for a word in your document.
22. Vertical Alignment: The position of text on a page between the top and bottom
margin.
23. Word Art: Stylized text that is treated as an object.
24. Word Processing: The use of a computer and software to enter and edit text and
produce documents such as letters, memos, forms, and reports.
25. Word Wrap: A feature in Word that automatically wraps words around to the next line
when they will not fit on the current line.
26. Zoom: The percentage the file is magnified or reduced on the screen.
