Host typically recommend exchange students to come in the spring semester. Reason being:
1. There is more housing available in the spring

accommodate them, but this creates many issues which usually do not arise in the spring semester.

On Pohang’s website for exchange students, it states that exchange students are allowed to take 3 to 9
credits per semester. A typical course at Pohang which matches to a NTU core course is about 3
credits. Hence 9 credits is approximately 3 courses. Pohang doesn’t have a limit related to credits but
usually international students take 3 (9 credits) ~ 4 (12 credits) courses. NTU students may be
interested in taking particular courses but they will have to fully consult with their advisor in our
department and professors who teach classes.

Duisburg Essen will accept students in Engineering sciences (no German language requirement).
Duisburg Essen will accept more students in other disciplines on an individual case by case basis. The
language requirement is being equivalent to 500 class hours in German (A2 level). They are open to
other disciplines if they are able to grant reliable supervision for NTU students on an individual basis.
The German requirement for subjects other than engineering is mandatory in principle but the host
has told us that they will consider each application on a case by case basis so please do apply if you are
interested.

Courses that your students could take instead are, for example:

210105 Preparing and conducting effective negotiations (B2)
210108 Help me understand you – effective (business) communication skills (B2)
210110 Business English, Focus: CVs and Business Letters (B2-C1)
210112 and 210113 Quick step – The World od Business (B2-C1)
Further information and course descriptions can be found here:
http://www.studiumgenerale.uni-mannheim.de/de/sprachkurse/englisch/
The course offer will vary slightly from semester to semester, but most of those courses are offered
regularly. These courses are taught by the University's "languages & skills" centre. As these courses
are not part of Mannheim's degree programmes, students do not receive ECTS credits upon
participation. However, nevertheless they are certainly useful and well-taught courses.
In those courses which are taught over the full semester (= no "crash courses"),
A German lanaguage pre-requisite is highly recommended before you go but not mandatory.
However, students MUST take the German intensive prep course when they arrive at Stuttgart (extra
cost).
NTU students can only take regular courses that are taught in German if they have the equivalent of an
A1 German proficiency level and if you have documentation to prove this.
