Persuasive Speech in 3rd Grade Writing The third grade students in Mrs. Selin and Mr. Tenhover’s classes have been composing persuasive speeches in writing this past month. Their assignment was to write a persuasive essay on why they should be allowed to join the justice league. The students’ mission was to explain their super powers and weaknesses. Each student wrote a persuasive argument explaining how they used their super powers in the past to help society. They had to explain why they believe they would be an asset to the Justice League. The students also wore their super hero costumes, which they created, while giving their persuasive essay on the final day. Everyone had a BLAST with this assignment. Students loved coming up with their own personal character, and had a great time changing into their alter-ego for the day. Even Mr. Tenhover participated in the project and dressed up as a super hero. This gave the students an authentic opportunity to embrace their character and try to persuade their peers.
