Prof. Dr. Charles M. Wiener

Current Trends and Innovations in

Health and Wellness

Charles M. Wiener, M.D. is the Founding Dean/CEO of Perdana

University Graduate School of Medicine (PUGSOM). He moved from Baltimore, Maryland to Kuala Lumpur in January 2011 to develop PUGSOM. Dr. Wiener is extensively involved in undergraduate and post-graduate medical education. He has won numerous awards for medical student teaching and mentorship including The Professor Teaching Award and The

George Stuart Award for Clinical Teaching from the School of

Medicine. Dr. Wiener is the author of Harrison’s Internal

Medicine Self-Assessment, The Respiratory System at a Glance and The Cardiovascular System at a Glance.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Umamaheswar Duvvuri

Advances in Robotic Surgery

Dr. Duvvuri is an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology and the

Director of Robotic Head and Neck Surgery, University of

Pittsburgh Medical Centre (UPMC), USA. He obtained his Medical

Degree and PhD in Biophysics from the University of

Pennsylvania in 2002. He then became a Fellow of Head and

Neck Surgery, UTMD Anderson Cancer Center in 2007. He holds an interest in Minimally Invasive Head and Neck Surgery and

Molecular Biology. Dr. Duvvuri has won 4 research awards, written more than 40 peer reviewed publications and has been invited to give more than 30 lectures both locally and internationally.

Datuk Dr. Selvam Rengasamy

Aging Gracefully

Datuk Dr. Selvam Rengasamy obtained his M.B.B.S from Madras and F.R.C.O.G from London. He is the President of the Society for

Advancement of Hormones and Healthy Aging Medicine,

Malaysia (SAHAMM) and also a Board Certified Anti-Aging

Physician from American Academy of Anti-Aging &Regenerative

Medicine (AARM) and International Hormone Society (IHS). He recently obtained his Fellowship from the Australasian College of

Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (ACNEM). Datuk Dr.

Selvam has been practicing medicine for the past 29 years. He is also involved in studying the incidences of hyperinsulinemia and

Vitamin D deficiency in the local population.

Prof. Ramlan Abdul Aziz

Malaysian Herbal Based Wellness

Product Development

Prof. Ramlan obtained his B.Sc (Hons) in 1981 and M.Sc (1983) in

Chemical Engineering. He is a Professor at the Faculty of Chemical

Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and the current

Director, Institute of Bio-Product Development (IBD)

a Centre of

Excellence focused on R&D and commercialization of innovative bio-products to support and elevate the nation’s wellness industry. He has been appointed as a member of the National

Herbs Development Board from 2012-2014. Prof. Ramlan is also currently the Chairman of the Processing Cluster of Herbal

Development Office, Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based

Industries. He recently spoke about Industry Applications of

Natural Products Chemistry at the Conference on the International

Cooperation and Chemical Safety and Security, held on the 12-13 th

September 2011 at The Hague.

Dr. Rajbans Singh

Recent Innovations in Healthy Aging

Dr.Rajbans has been with Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur as a

Consultant Physician and Geriatrician since 2004. He is also the past president of the Malaysian Healthy Ageing Society and initiated the Healthy Ageing Unit in Pantai Hospital Kuala

Lumpur. Dr.Rajbans has developed various proposals, lectures and publications covering areas of healthy aging, influenza vaccination in the elderly, elderly care services, nutrition and memory status. He is currently researching on anti-aging, preventative healthcare and wellness programmes for the elderly.

Prof. Dato’ Dr. Raymond Azman Ali is a Senior Consultant

Neurologist, Professor of Medicine, Dean of the Medical Faculty and the Director of the University Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical

Center (UKMMC). Prof. Dato’ Raymond is a referee for many local and international journals such as Annals of Neurology,

BMC Neurology UK, European Journal of Neurology, and

Singapore Medical Journal. He has received more than 10 awards for his research and activities in local and international arenas.

Prof. Dato’Raymond is also the Chairman of the Epilepsy Council of Malaysia, member and sole Asian representative of the subcommission on Neuroimaging and International League Against

Epilepsy, U.K. He is a well-renowned Neurologist and

Epileptologist in Malaysia.
