PEGASE www.myspace.com/pegaseinthesky Halfway between New Order and MGMT, the voice of Minitel Rose invokes music from new age, disco, new wave & indie pop to dance eyes closed. Pegase sees the indian dance around the fire, he travels the seas with a horse, the night with his body and shares his madness with the rest of the world. Without reasons and everywhere, a dream awake of a spellbound girl, Valerie's young member and creator of Futur records lost tears in the rain. blogs review “Walkin on a Dream” Empire of the Sun (Pegase remix) on the most popular songs on Hype Machine feb 2nd 2009. Electrorash - Australia “The delightful Raphael D’Hervez, better know as Valerie’s Pegase, has kindly decided to share with us his first ever remix, taking on Empire Of The Sun’s “Walking on a Dream,” presumably for all of its bright-eyed whimsy and laidback flair. The result is characteristically pretty, D’Hervez’s synthwork simultaneously skipping over the surface of the chorus while creating new melodies from beneath the vocal line. He’s also just completed a new demo, “Dream Awake,” which is my favourite original track of his so far. Featuring his Minitel Rose-lent vocals, it’s as close to those times you get stuck in one of those relentless conscious-yet-sleeping states as a song could get, only it doesn’t end with you finally waking up feeling like hell for the rest of the day.” (about the song “Dream Awake” and the remix “Walkin on a dream”) Hyperbole - Australia Can't believe I've neglected posting this gorgeous Pegase stuff 'til now. As you'd expect from the latest member of the Valerie clique, it's exceptionally dreamy, synthesizer-drenched stuff. Pegase actually moonlights in Minitel Rose, and this band background is something which serves his tunes well, and differentiates them from the others. Going Other Places - UK « Where Without Reasons was a bit naive and introvert, Dream Awake sounds like a song that could easily break Pegase to a wider audience. The arrangement is tightened up while the melodies and vocals remain heartfelt and pure. This is easily my favorite Pegase track, and if he can keep up this level of awesomeness, we can only hope for a full album sometime soon! Along with Dream Awake came a remix of Empire of the Sun’s beautiful Walking on a Dream. Pegase’s version is a bit more funky than his original stuff while putting more focus on the vocals. As with anything related to Walking on a Dream this is solid gold! » (about the song “Dream Awake” and the remix “Walkin on a dream”) Redthreat - Chicago, USA « Wow. In 2009, I see Valerie taking a huge step forward and becoming one of the forefront labels in this little blog-electro-hipster-nuwave-house world… I get to hear gems like Pegase. » Butter team - NYC & Baltimore, USA “Here's a brand new demo + rmx from the Valerie Collective's youngest member/cofounder, Pegase. If you need a compelling reason to preview "Dream Awake", Pegase is the vox behind Minitel Rose, he produced College's Secret Diary debut and is already collabing/touring with the Outrunners, Anoraak, Russ Chimes and Jupiter (starting this weekend in Barcelona with Chimes). Don't expect an EP any time soon - Raph said by email this morning, "I'm just at the beginning of my project. I want to travel with my music; I want to start with DJ/live sets around the world and then reflect on a release." Having caught most of Valerie last weekend at Webster Hall (NYC), the live piece fits either of these song titles perfectly.” Nerd Network - Helsinky, Finland “Wow simply amazing melancholic pop music from Pegase.” Persona Sauna - Florida, USA “If You Like Chromatics, White Lies, & Cut Copy...” My Kunk - Budapest, Hungary « What you can expect: synth waves collide with the dance-drum rocks of the rhytmical coastline. Okay, maybe this was too metaphorical. Point is what you can’t expect: the heartfelt and at the same time coldly distant vocals. if there will ever be a genre like electronic singer-songwriter than Pegase’s future stuff will surely be labeled like that. Mixing the smooth synth revival with the haunting ghostly atmosphere that makes you anxious and won’t let you sleep, Pegase is after something unique and we can’t wait to hear more.” (about the song “Dream Awake”) “Another track is one I haven’t seen on blogs either, a remix of Empire of the Sun’s Walking on a Dream. It was a great track by itself, the Australian lads made it to our bests of 2008 and Pegase here adds some of his own synth-y talent which makes the remix worthy to appear beside Treasure Fingers, Van She Tech and Neon Neon. » The Hype - Australia “Pegase is a new addition to the already stellar line up on the Valerie collective which have a few artists touring Australia in the next month. I’m loving his original track Dream Awake as well as this awesome remix he has done of Walking On A Dream (Empire of the Sun). “ Dödselectro - Varberg, Sweden “Within valerie’s dreamy world containing the atmosphere you find in old commercials, tv-shows, movies and video games from the 80’s we find several artists with these particular influences. Anoraak, College, The Outrunners, Maethelvin and more are all part of this. Be sure to pay valerie a visit and discover their music. So far Pegase only have some demos floating around, that’s all I know about him. I’m sure Valerie will keep us updated though.” (about the songs “Without Reasons” & “Tears in the Rain) Electrorash – Australia “On his own he of course has that signature low-key, ethereal Valerie sound, which is perfect material to fall asleep to (a compliment, not a criticism), but it’s his strong melodies that could likely nudge his work into pop song territory if the final product wasn’t so charmingly understated. Keep an eye on Valerie’s page for updates and future releases.” (about the songs “Without Reasons” & “Tears in the Rain) Going Other Places - UK “Synth pop always has some kind of magic effect on me when done right. My heart melts a little every time those dreamy sounds hit my ear, and I’m always searching for some new artists to deliver this delight. The latest act to amaze me is the French one man project Pegase. The sound, as it is with most things on Valerie has a lot of retro elements in it, and where Minitel Rose and College are a bit more outgoing, Pegase is a journey inwards that guides you through Raphaël’s world with melancholic and irresistible melodies” (about the songs “Without Reasons” & “Tears in the Rain) Valerie – France “Pegase is the side project of Raphaël, who will already be known by some of you Valerie regulars as the voice of Minitel Rose. His approach remains pop but perhaps more intimate and delicate through melodies of a certain melancholy. So here I bring you two of his tracks, join with me in appreciating this inspired and poetic discovery...” Some Grey Gardens – Australia « If you head to his Myspace you can hear a few of the tracks. Most follow the delicately disco pop route of Minitel Rose, but are a little more contemplative with slightly melancholic tones. “Spellbound Girl” is a gentle romp through French House and the gorgeous, lofty “Without Reasons” journeys through ambient electronic dreamscapes of love and romance. Things get a little more dramatic with “Everywhere”, which immediately brings to mind 70s Bowie and The Labyrinth - immediately I imagined this as the soundtrack as Jennifer Connolly runs frantically through the maze calling for Toby. This comes courtesy of Valerie, I can't wait for more! » Discodust - Germany « pegase is the new solo project by raphaël d'hervez, known to (hopefully) all of you as the voice of valerie's very own minitel rose. while keeping the valerie collective's lovely, dreamy and melancholic vibe, the first bunch of pegase songs sound a lot more energetic, driving and catchy - innocent pop music at it's best. listen to the greatness of the demos for 'without reasons' and 'spellbound girl' and you'll agree that as soon as these tracks get a proper mastering, they'll go straight from bedroom pop to stadium rockers. i doubt i really have to tell regular discodust readers that they'll have to check out the valerie blog regularly and i am sure i won't have to ask you to show pegase some love on myspace as well. Deckhead - Australia ITW 1. For those readers who don't know, tell us about Pegase, your music style/genre, and main influences? My songs are pop music, between New Order and MGMT. I like new age, psychedelic rock and disco. I make music for the people who dance eyes closed, for the indians who dance around the fire and to share my madness with the world. Pegase is a dream awake for me. 2. Your also the lead singer of Minitel Rose, how does your music with the band differ from your original production? The 2 others guys from Minitel Rose are my best friends since ever. I composed alone a long time before Minitel Rose, but this band give me the force to be a singer. We search the madness and the simplicity with Minitel Rose. Our goal is to have always no limits. Pegase is more personnal, I give what i have deep inside me. Music is my life and if I don't have a solo project it's like I don't exist alone. Since Minitel Rose exist I live many things who inspire me for Pegase. A few month ago I composed a song called "Tears in the rain" which is a tribute to the last scene of my favorite movie "Blade Runner", it was too dark and sad for Minitel Rose. A few month after, I was in Berlin with Minitel Rose, there was a piano in the backstage, I compose "Without Reasons", when I go back to france, Pegase was born. 3. How did you come about to collaborating and releasing songs with the valerie music collective? In the Valerie collective, we are the first to listen the songs from each other. Everybody say to me a compliment, on a party or by mail. Valerie is a family, I have produced the College album, I have some project (collab or remix) with The Outrunners, Anoraak, Jupiter & Russ Chimes. They are my friends. 4. What are your thoughts on this whole nudisco sound that a lot of producers are focusing on, besides the Valerie artist who are capturing your imagination with their own sound? This is the problem now, there are too many producers with the same sound, I think actually the best nudisco producers are ruckazoid, grum, moulinex, miami horror etc... But my imagination comes from elsewhere... 5. Any major plans for 2009, whether its being a live performance or releasing tracks? This year I want to have some dj sets in cool places all around the world because I love to travel, to meet people and to party. I prepare my first live set for the 26th March in London at the Notting Hill Arts Club. I have a lot of songs unrealesed and I just start the next Minitel Rose release, so I don't think really about a Pegase release for the moment... I want to have the best conditions for my music.
