Film and Television

University

Graduates can receive up to two years’ credit towards a degree at major Australian universities.

Diploma of Screen and Media

The Diploma is offered for people who want to work in the film and television industry in a variety of roles in the specialised fields of editing, camera, sound production, or television. Originate and develop an idea for a production, write scripts, direct, develop a budget, and learn to work effectively as a member of a production crew in both documentary and drama productions, implement sound design, editing and create titles for screen productions. Students will gain a broad working knowledge of the Australian film and television industry, learn how to work safely and use effective communication skills. The outcomes of the diploma focus on quality and professionalism and include cross media delivery platforms, including new media.

Employment opportunities: television producer, media production manager, post production operator, editor and camera/lighting operator

Certificate IV in Screen and Media

This the entry level qualification for the film, television, and digital media industries. Study in either of two strands –

Television

Plan and make television segments involving both single and multi-camera techniques. As a member of a production crew, you will also study scriptwriting, vision and sound editing, lighting, and vision mixing.

Camera editing

Learn the basic skills and knowledge required for editing, animating, camera and sound production for short film production.

You will learn how to plan a production; write a script, set up required sound, lighting and camera equipment and work effectively as a member of a production crew.

Both strands offer a choice of 3D animation or interactive authoring of media.

Employment opportunities: camera/lighting operator, production coordinator, asset management operator, editing assistant, sound assistant and animation/visual effects designer

Certificate III in Media

An introduction to the film and television industry combining creative thinking subjects and practical classes that brings students together in a production crew environment. Students will learn how to write and plan projects, shoot material, vision and sound editing, and author new media productions.

Employment opportunities: camera/lighting assistant, editing assistant, interactive media author assistant and production assistant

Sound Production

University

Graduates of the diploma can receive up to two year’s credit towards a Bachelor of Creative Industries at selected universities.

Diploma of Sound Production

Develop specialist expertise and learn to exercise music knowledge and artistic judgement. This qualification is those who want to work at a more advanced level in the creative arts, music, performing and entertainment industries as assistant sound engineers or sound designers.

With a range of specialist elective units you can learn to plan, develop and implement audio/sound design and sound recordings or operate and maintain a variety of sound recording, production and playback equipment. Other elective units allow you to develop ICT/digital, rigging, post-production, project management and business skill for a career in the music and creative arts industries.

Employment opportunities: studio sound engineer, mix engineer, live sound engineer (music), live sound engineer (theatre), studio assistant, production assistant, audio post-production engineer, composer, OB engineer, venue coordinator, recording artist, electronic musician, music and dialogue editor, location recordist, promoter and client liaison

Certificate IV in Sound Production

This level qualification is for people who already have a basic understanding of music technology and want to establish a career as a professional audio technician, sound designer or audio engineer. Learn about studio operations, digital audio production and PA assembly for live shows while developing your own creativity and business acumen. Explore the world of live events, studio recording, sound mixing, copyright law and essential music industry business skills.

From the specialist elective units you can learn to operate and maintain a range of audio/sound equipment and plan, record, mix and edit sound. From the other elective units you can develop ICT/digital, rigging, post-production or small and micro business skills.

Employment opportunities: sound mixer/technician, sound recordist, live sound operator

Certificate III in Technical Production

This course provides students with an introduction to music production technology and the skills and knowledge to begin a career in the music industry. It will prepare students wishing to apply for the Certificate IV in Sound Production. From the specialist elective units offered, you may select audio/sound, or lighting, or staging, or vision systems and other elective units for a career in the music and creative arts industry.

Employment opportunities: assistant sound mixer, audio-visual operator, casual technician, live sound assistant
