H. Advertisers assume all liability for all content of advertisements printed and Advertiser represents that
it is fully authorized and licensed to use the entire content and subject matter of the advertisements
including but not limited to the names, portraits and/or pictures of any person and any copyrighted or

Your chances of getting a

A week before opening day,
85 percent of this season’s

The New England Center
for Investigative Reporting
has taken a close look at why
so few tickets are available,
and here are some answers:
Gone is the cream of the
ticket inventory, weekend
games against other top
teams. The vast majority –
nearly 70 percent of tickets
sold to date – were reserved
months or even years ago by
corporations and individual
season ticket holders or
scooped up by ticket resellers,
according to an analysis of
team seat sales confirmed by
the Red Sox.
And, ticket sellers have taken another bite out of the remaining tickets, including
bleacher and grandstand seats
that are typically the haven of
the average fan.
Those fans forced to buy
tickets from resellers face the
prospect of shelling out hefty
premiums, with the average
price of a Sox ticket on the secondary market having hit
$117, according to SeatGeek.com.

SPRINGFIELD – When this
tree was just a sapling, this nation was yet to be born.
It was here when George
Washington visited, both as a
general on his way to take
command of the Continental
Army and as the country’s first
president on his inaugural tour
in 1789.
The giant black oak was
here for the invention of automobiles and two world wars.
“I saw the coming of the railroads. . . . I was here as the Industrial Revolution made
Springfield a manufacturing
giant,” said Jim Boone, taking
on the voice of the oak tree that
towers outside his home on
Florida Street in the city’s
McKnight neighborhood.
Recently, Jim and his wife,
Merry Boone, who moved into
the home in 1976, celebrated
the life of the oak, which will
soon have to be cut down due
to old age.
“We didn’t want to be the
ones to bring it down, but it’s
dangerous to keep it. It cannot
die a natural death like in the
forest falling limb by limb so
we have to cut it down,” Merry
Boone said.
“The current house was built
in 1887. There was a house prior to that in the 1870s. The tree
was here well before both
houses. Foresters have looked
at it and said it dates over 200
years,” Jim Boone said. A core
sample taken on Oct. 24 determined the tree dates back
300 years or more.
“Over the last few years,
some large branches have fallen even on calm days,” Boone
said. “We had arborists come
out and look at it, and they said
the tree has passed its prime
and is hollow in some places.

SPRINGFIELD – Their first
bucket is already full of change,
and students at John F. Kennedy

many times as they can.
Maryorie Mendez, 13, Kay L.

the All Stars student advisor
group. They will be making daily rounds until Nov. 17 collecting pennies for the Pennies Plus

at the mayor’s
office to raise
money for the
American Red
Cross. All of
the money will
go directly to
the 65 evacuee families affected
by Hurricane Katrina who are
living in the Springfield area.
Principal Frances Cameron
attended the city-wide principals meeting about the campaign, and went back to her
school ready to get the students
involved.
“I thought it was a wonderful
idea especially because it is a local effort for families affected by
the hurricane,” she said.
Natalie Shaw, the group’s advisor, quickly found students
who were interested in participating.
“The principal came to me
with the project and said she
needed some students to work
on it as a group. We do a lot of

B. All advertising submitted is accepted subject to the approval of the Publisher. Publisher reserves the
right, at its absolute discretion and at any time without notice, to cancel an advertising order or reject or
edit any advertising copy or illustration, whether or not the same has already been acknowledged and/or

considered a breach of contract, but shall require Advertiser to supply new copy acceptable to the Publisher.
C. Advertising simulating news must be slugged “Advertisement”
D. Alcoholic Beverage advertising accepted.
E. All (Commercial) Media at General Rates.
F. All Distributors at General Rates.
G. POSITION request honored as make-up permits and no specific page or section can be guaranteed. In
no event will adjustments, reinsertion or refund be made because of the position in which an advertisement
has been published. No orders accepted on a position or omit basis.
H. Advertisers assume all liability for all content of advertisements printed and Advertiser represents that
it is fully authorized and licensed to use the entire content and subject matter of the advertisements
including but not limited to the names, portraits and/or pictures of any person and any copyrighted or
trademarked material in any advertisements submitted by or on behalf of Advertiser. The Advertiser further
represents that there is nothing in such advertisement which is libelous, defamatory or invades the privacy
of any person or entity.
I. Composition - corrections requiring less than 25% of time of original composition are allowed to advertisers
- excess time over allowance on each advertisement charged at the cost of change. Entire composition
and correction time on all advertisements not published within 15 days will be charged for at cost.
J. Publisher is not liable for errors unless corrected proof is returned to Publisher before publication. Such
errors will not constitute a breach of contract, and Publisher’s liability for an error will not exceed cost of
space for section occupied by error. Credit will be allowed for first insertion only, and any claim must be
made in writing within 10 days of insertion.
K. Advertisers should check their ad the first day of publication. The Republican SHALL NOT BE LIABLE
FOR FAILURE TO PUBLISH AN AD or for typographic errors or omissions in publication except to the extent
of the cost of the ad for the first day’s insertion.
Publisher’s liability for failure to publish an advertisement shall not exceed a refund of or credit
for Publisher’s charge for such advertisement. Adjustment for errors is limited to the cost of that
portion of the ad wherein the error occurred.
L. Cancellations or changes in orders will not be accepted after closing, and none may be
considered executed unless acknowledged by the Publisher. Cancellations of any portion of an
advertising contract on behalf of the Advertiser automatically nullifies any rate protection and
any preferred position reservation on the remainder of the contract. If a space discount
has been deducted in paying for prior insertions on a cancelled contract, the Advertiser shall
reimburse Publisher for any difference between the rate paid and the rate earned.
M. The Advertiser and Agency agree to protect, indemnify and hold harmless The Republican
against any and all liability, loss and expense of whatsoever nature (including counsel fees)
arising out of the copying, printing or publication of the Advertiser’s advertisements.
N. No advertising space or distribution services herein offered may be used by the Advertiser
for the promotion, either directly or indirectly, of any business organization or enterprise other
than that for which the advertising space or service is provided.
O. Publisher, at its option, may terminate its relationship with Advertiser for the breach of any
of the terms hereof, it being specifically understood without limitation that failure on the part
of Advertiser to pay each bill on or before its due date shall constitute a breach. Should Publisher
terminate its relationship with Advertiser, all charges incurred together with short-rate charges
shall be immediately due and payable. Furthermore, in the event Advertiser breaches, Publisher
may decide to exercise its right to refuse to publish any or all of Advertiser’s advertising.
P. If it becomes necessary to place with an attorney for collection any claim for funds due under
the terms of this agreement, then Advertiser agrees to pay to Publisher a reasonable attorney’s
fee of twenty-five (25) per cent of the balance then unpaid.
Q. Advertiser recognizes that the copyright in any advertisements created by Publisher is owned
by Publisher. As to all other advertisements, Advertiser agrees that Publisher has the nonexclusive
right, for the full term of copyright, by itself or through third parties, to republish and
re-use any advertisements submitted hereunder in any form in which the advertisements may
be published or used (in any media now in existence or hereafter developed) in whole or in any
part, whether or not combined with material of others.
