BOARD OF LEGAL EDUCATION GHANA SCHOOL OF LAW ENTRANCE EXAMINATION FOR ADMISSION TO THE PROFESSIONAL LAW COURSE IN OCTOBER, 2015 1. It is announced for the information of the general public, particularly LLB graduates, that the Ghana School of Law will conduct an Entrance Examination for applicants who wish to pursue the Professional Law Course in the next academic year commencing in October 2015. 2. The Entrance Examination shall take place on Friday July 31, 2015, at the N Block, University of Ghana, Legon. Any change in venue will be communicated to applicants. The Examination commences at 11:00 a.m. 3. The Examination is a two hour paper and is in two sections. Section A comprises 30 questions (multiple choice), covering all the nine basic courses required prior to admission to the Ghana School of Law. Section B will consist of three essay questions, based on any 3 of the same 9 basic Courses. Candidates are to answer any one of the 3 questions. 4. The categories of applicants listed below are eligible to write the Entrance Examination: a. ALL LLB graduates from the Faculties of Law of Public Universities in Ghana, including KNUST, Kumasi; University of Ghana(Legon); and GIMPA approved by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) and the General Legal Council (GLC); b. ALL LLB graduates from the Faculties of Law of Private University Colleges in Ghana approved by the NAB and GLC; and c. ALL Ghanaian LLB graduates or holders of equivalent law degrees from Universities in the United Kingdom, Canada, United States of America and other common law jurisdictions who have obtained passes in all the prescribed subjects/courses for admission to the Professional Law Course. 1 5. The admission process is in 2 stages: (i) The applicant must have passed a competitive written examination st conducted by the General Legal Council scheduled for 31 July, 2015. (ii) All Candidates at the competitive Entrance Examination who attain a threshold mark will be invited to attend interviews conducted by the General Legal Council for admission into the Ghana School of Law. (iii) Only candidates whose combined performance at the competitive written examination and the interview merits it will be offered admission to pursue the Professional Law Course in October 2015. (iv) For the avoidance of doubt, applicants from overseas/foreign Universities who possess LLB certificates or certificates for equivalent law degrees shall be eligible to write the Entrance Examination if such applicants have passed the subjects below at the LLB or equivalent level: a. Ghana Constitutional Law b. Ghana Legal System and Methods c. Criminal Law d. Law of Equity and Succession e. Law of Torts f. Law of Contract g. Law of Immovable Property h. Company Law i. Commercial Law In addition to the above nine (9) subjects, applicants must have studied and passed any one of the following subjects: j. Law of Natural Resources 2 k. Environmental Law l. Intellectual Property Law m. Law of Taxation (v) Entrance Examination Registration Forms will be made available to the Deans of all Faculties of Law of Public Universities in Ghana. Applicants from private Universities and overseas/foreign Universities may obtain their Registration Forms from the REGISTRY at the Ghana School of Law (Accra Main Campus). (vi) Applicants shall complete Registration Forms, annex the following documents, and submit same to the REGISTRY. a. Banker’s draft of Three Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHC300.00) made payable to the BOARD OF LEGAL EDUCATION. b. Four (4) recently taken passport –sized pictures of applicant. c. Photocopies of law degree certificates and all other relevant certificates such as High School certificates and testimonials (if any). (vii) The decision of the General Legal Council in respect of the publication of results of both the Entrance Examination and the interview shall be final. (viii) ALL registered applicants will be given Examination Index Numbers by the General Legal Council. th (ix) The deadline for the submission of Registration Forms is 13 July, 2015.
