Brisbane Domestic Violence Service 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM ‘Facing Up to Domestic Violence’ The Brisbane Domestic Violence Service would like to invite you to participate in our campaign. By attending our event ‘Facing up to Domestic Violence’ you can show your support to eliminate violence against women in our community and around the world. The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence is a global campaign to raise awareness about violence against women and its impact on a woman’s physical, psychological, social and spiritual well‐being. Human rights cannot be universal without human rights for women. The 16 Days of Activism begins on 25th November on International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and ends on December 10th International Human Rights Day. These two dates highlight that violence against women is a human rights abuse. During the 16 days, activists around the world use the campaign to further raise awareness about the prevalence and devastating impact of gender violence, to celebrate victories gained by the Women’s Rights Movement, challenge policy and practice that allow women to be targeted for acts of violence and demand that violence against women be recognised as an abuse of human rights. For this event we will be holding a street stall on Boundary street, West End at Little Park (opposite the Goanna). We will be asking community members to be photographed individually or in small groups, holding messages supporting an end to Domestic Violence. These photos will then be turned into a small video slideshow that will be available on the Brisbane Domestic Violence Service website. The event will be held on Monday 3rd December from 11am – 2:00pm and we hope that you can drop by and show your support. If you should require any further information, please do not hesitate to call The Brisbane Domestic Violence Service on 3217 2544.
