RESULTS OF STUDY ON ABILITY OF POLLINATION,
INSEMINATION RELATED TO FRUIT SET OF DAI MINH PUMELO IN
YEN BINH – YEN BAI

Summary
Dai Minh pumelo is special variety of Yen Binh district, Yen Bai province. Study on ability
of pollination, insemination related to fruit set showed that is a pumelo characterized of
self-incompatibility. Although pollen grains of it have ability to germination very well,
reached to 17.78%, but not able to insemination due to the growth of pollen tubes were
stoped at lower style, not reached to ovule for inseminating after pollinating for 8 days.
Meanwhile, after 8 days also if Dai Minh pumelo pollinated by pollens of pumelos of
Chua, La to and Dien gave high fruit set percentage, reached from 12 to 36%, in which
ability of insemination with pollens of Chua and La to pumelos were better and gave fruit
set percentage higher, reached of 30 and 36% respectively. From this result could be
concluded that cause of low fruit set percentage of Dai Minh pumelo is not able to
inseminating by itself-pollens. For increasing fruit set percentage of Dai Minh pumelo, it is
needed to application of pollination by pollens of the other pumelo varieties such as Chua
or La to pumelo.
