Information sheet – Requirements for new drivers
Who is Qcity Transit?
Qcity Transit is a member of ComfortDelGro Cabcharge Pty Ltd. It is the largest
independent transport operator in southern New South Wales, comprising Transborder
Express and what was previously Deane’s Buslines.
Qcity Transit in the capital region boasts a fleet of approx 100 buses/coaches and 120
employees. On a typical school day we carry up to 6000 students to local and A.C.T
schools, and approximately 2000 commuters to and from work along the Yass –
Murrumbateman – Canberra – Queanbeyan corridor.
Qcity Transit in the capital region is active over a large area. The area we operate in
stretches from Yass/Murrumbateman in the north-west, through to Queanbeyan and
Canberra City, right down to Michelago and Bungendore in the south-east of our region.

relation to this for the right candidate.

ACT issued licence driver must hold an ‘O’ condition

V. Meet health requirements – where applicant cannot provide evidence of a
medical assessment carried out within the last 90 days, a pre-employment
medical check will be required
VI. Working with Children Check Clearance

Working With Children Check
A Working With Children Check clearance must be obtained before you can be
considered for employment. You are responsible for applying for your own Working With
Children Check. This is done online at www.newcheck.kids.nsw.gov.au and will cost
$80. Clearance is valid for a period of 5 years and applicants will be subject to ongoing
monitoring for that period. Further information is available in the attached New Working
With Children Check Fact Sheet 16
What is a DA and how do I get one?
A Driver Authority (DA) is an authority which enables you to carry passengers in public
vehicles. All drivers of public transport vehicles operating in New South Wales need to
have a N.S.W. Driver Authority.
To get a DA:
I.
visit the Transport for NSW website, www.transport.nsw.gov.au
II.
on the quick menu on the left-hand side go to – Buses and Coaches
III.
on screen go to – For Drivers
IV.
on screen go to – Applying for a Driver Authority
V.
on screen download both – DA application forms and Medical Assessment
forms – and print
You will then need to fill in the general application form, have your GP assess you and
then your GP will need to fill in the medical assessment form. You are then required to
send the forms off together (enclosed with $70 money order and photos) to the
Transport for NSW office in Wollongong. The address is listed on the forms.
You will then need to arrange a DA course. It costs approximately $300.00 and is tax
deductable. The course involves collecting course material and studying it, then
completing an assessment after you have studied the course material. Upon completion
of the course you will be issued with a certificate – this will need to be faxed or mailed
over to the Transport for NSW office in Wollongong. They will process this with your
other forms and proceed to produce a DA card which will be posted to your residential
address when completed.
The process takes about 4-5 weeks.
Applicants without heavy vehicle licence experience will need to undergo training. We
conduct 4 training sessions a year through our external training provider. Applicants will
need to contact TISC (6297 7187) or refer to our website (www.qcitytransit.com.au) for
more information.
What if I already have a licence?
All applicants have to undergo a training and assessment by Qcity Transit’s external
provider before they are employed by the Qcity Transit, regardless if you have
completed one before or not. The assessment is paid for by the Qcity Transit for
applicants who continue on to work for Qcity Transit.
What opportunities does Qcity Transit offer?
Through the amalgamation of Transborder Express and the former Deane’s Buslines,
Qcity Transit is able to offer:
I.
Route service work,
II.
School services,
III.
Charters,
IV.
Transfers,
V.
Timetable Coach work and,
VI.
General Coach hires.

What is the recruitment process at Qcity Transit?
The recruitment process here at Qcity Transit is as follows:
• Initial interview,
• Call referees,
• Conduct a second interview and,
• Undergo Training and Assessment with External Provider
• On the job training as a trainee
If all of that is successful then the applicant would need to undergo Qcity Transit
operational training which will be conducted by a member of our operations staff. This is
to ensure they are familiar with shifts/rosters through direct training and to guarantee the
applicant understands our practice(s). They will then need to commence their final
assessment; this will be done when the applicant is ready and confident that they have
received sufficient knowledge to commence his/her shift as normal.
What is an average working day like?
At Qcity Transit and Transborder Express, the majority of shifts incorporate school
services. Typically a normal shift will see a driver perform an AM school run then
proceed onto a transfer or charter (demand based), and then proceed onto a PM school
run. The average spread of hours is from approximately 0645 hrs to 1645 hrs, with
breaks in between. Shift times may differ and Qcity Transit cannot guarantee hours.
However it is possible for drivers to pick up extra work/shifts if he or she is willing.
How much does Qcity pay?
We pay according to the relevant state and federal awards, as well as penalties,
overtime, and superannuation. We are looking to recruit permanent part time drivers and
will guarantee 21 hours per week to the right candidate.
