A Driver Authority (DA) is an authority which enables you to carry passengers in public vehicles. All drivers of public transport vehicles operating in New South Wales need to have a N.S.W. Driver Authority. To get a DA: I. visit the Transport for NSW website, www.transport.nsw.gov.au II. on the quick menu on the left-hand side go to – Buses and Coaches III. on screen go to – For Drivers IV. on screen go to – Applying for a Driver Authority V. on screen download both – DA application forms and Medical Assessment forms – and print You will then need to fill in the general application form, have your GP assess you and then your GP will need to fill in the medical assessment form. You are then required to send the forms off together (enclosed with $70 money order and photos) to the Transport for NSW office in Wollongong. The address is listed on the forms. You will then need to arrange a DA course. It costs approximately $300.00 and is tax deductable. The course involves collecting course material and studying it, then completing an assessment after you have studied the course material. Upon completion of the course you will be issued with a certificate – this will need to be faxed or mailed over to the Transport for NSW office in Wollongong. They will process this with your other forms and proceed to produce a DA card which will be posted to your residential address when completed. The process takes about 4-5 weeks. Applicants without heavy vehicle licence experience will need to undergo training. We conduct 4 training sessions a year through our external training provider. Applicants will need to contact TISC (6297 7187) or refer to our website (www.qcitytransit.com.au) for more information. What if I already have a licence? All applicants have to undergo a training and assessment by Qcity Transit’s external provider before they are employed by the Qcity Transit, regardless if you have completed one before or not. The assessment is paid for by the Qcity Transit for applicants who continue on to work for Qcity Transit. What opportunities does Qcity Transit offer?
