Being wrong -- 02-28-14
The week after The Beatles’ first appearance on Ed Sullivan in 1964, Newsweek
magazine reviewed their American debut:
“Visually they are a nightmare: tight, overdressed, Edwardian/Beatnik suits. Musically,
they are a near disaster. Their lyrics [punctuated by a nutty shout of yeah, yeah, yeah!]
are a catastrophe.
And the article ended with, “…odds are they will fade away, as most adults confidently
predict.”
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Don’t you just love it when know-it-alls eat humble pie?
So humility is one of the great spiritual lessons… it’s often necessary that we learn it by
being absolutely, embarrassingly wrong.
Just a thought. I’m Sid Batts from First Presbyterian in downtown Greensboro.
