The central goal of Primus Content Management System is to enable a simple and effective means of publishing and managing content on a Web site. The technology is applied to virtually any kind of 7 Tel +962 6 5535 733, Fax +962 6 5535 734, P.O. Box 2147, Amman 11953. Jordan, e-mail: info@primus.com.jo, www.primus.com.jo A division of Computer Networking Services site, whether it is an intranet, extranet, or public site. It also provides a comprehensive mechanism for designing, developing, and managing a site. Additionally, the dynamic nature of Primus CMS provides an implicit methodology for managing functional aspects of the Website such as navigation. There are a number of important issues that can be addressed through the use of dynamic content: o Timeliness: Content should only appear in the time span for which it is relevant. Often, this relevance can be reduced down to a specific date. For example, if a corporate Web site is to contain content that is collateral to a scheduled corporate event, it may be required that the content does not appear on the site until the precise moment the event begins, and should “disappear” from the site at the event’s conclusion. o Instant Reuse: the content can be reused (published) in multiple locations; an update to the source should be immediately reflected in all published locations, without the need for additional publishing events to take place. o Access: Access by subscribers with varying access privileges. Lists will be automatically “filtered” according to the subscribers’ access rights • Extra Technical Features: o Template-based publishing: Centrally control branding, page and navigation layout and corporate publishing standards through authoring and presentation templates. Primus CMS uses a predefined list of templates, which means that the system doesn’t give the regular system users the ability to design their own templates this is important to enforce the authors to create new content based on a predefined set of templates to unify the outcomes. However adding new templates is an easy step that requires someone experienced in web designing. Note: some extra programming maybe required in case of complex or sophisticated templates. o Workflows: insure content is properly reviewed and approved prior to publishing through multi-step role-based workflow (simple publishing workflows can also be implemented). During the multi-step workflow the involved users will be able to notify other users with editing/publishing notes through assigning notifications as tasks. In more details the system enables the administrators to change the content publishing workflow according to the needs of the organization (from simple to complex authoring and publishing process). The initial AuthoringPublishing workflows supported can be one of the following: o Direct Publishing (Authors = Editors = Publishers) o Authoring and Publishing (Authors --> Publishers) o Authoring, Approving and Publishing (Authors --> Editors --> Publishers) “Authors” are allowed to create the pages and forward them to the “Editors”, and edit the pages that have been declined by the editors/publishers. The “Editors” are allowed to edit/approve/decline the pages sent by the “Authors”. The “Publishers” have full permission; they 8 Tel +962 6 5535 733, Fax +962 6 5535 734, P.O. Box 2147, Amman 11953. Jordan, e-mail: info@primus.com.jo, www.primus.com.jo A division of Computer Networking Services can change anything related to the page or they can decline the pages sent by the “authors” or the “editors”. o The system keeps a history of all the page related notification messages which occur between the different users during the page lifecycle. The system automatically assigns a new version number for each new instance of the page. This gives the system users the ability to return and access old published instances in times of need for auditing purposes. o Upon declining/approving any page, the system collects the notification message from the current user (e.g. approval message to check the pages is sent from “authors” to the “editors” and then from “editors” to the “publishers”, while the decline messages are sent from “editors”/ “publishers” to the “authors” directly or indirectly). o Via the “Tasks” feature, the system users can be notified of any amendments they need to adjust, or any pages they need to edit or publish. The messages notification features can be used to simulate the Audit trail workflow reports. o Rich Editing: CMS users will be able to use a rich content editor (similar to MS word) to edit and change the contents. o The CMS application will be structured (virtually) inside an unlimited number of folders and sub folders (virtual websites). These folders will host the CMS created content pages and their related menu items and sub items. Each folder will be related to a predefined template in order to standardize all the page layouts within that folder. Accordingly each content page is related to a specific folder and to one or more menu items. o Deleting the content pages occurs in two modes. The first deletion doesn’t delete the page permanently, but moves the deleted page to the system recycle-bin; the administrators can restore or permanently delete the deleted pages inside the system recycle-bin (2nd deletion mode). o Dynamic Links: CMS users will be able to manage and control the site links/channels hierarchy without many restrictions. All the CMS application menus and sub menus are structured inside the folders and sub folders. Each folder can have one or all of the following (Header Menu, Left Menu and/or Right Menu) depending on the related template selected. Menu items can be dynamically created and manipulated according to the administrator’s needs. o Centralized Resources: all the pages references and files (e.g. all of the site images, PDFs, word documents, excel reports, etc) are placed in one well organized location called “resource gallery”. Resource files as mentioned can be of any type such as document files, image files, excel sheets, etc. All of these files will be used inside the content pages, and will be “virtually” structured inside an unlimited number of categories and sub categories. o Deleting the resource files occurs in two modes. The first deletion doesn’t delete the resource file permanently, but moves the deleted file to the system recycle-bin; the administrators 9 Tel +962 6 5535 733, Fax +962 6 5535 734, P.O. Jordan, e-mail: info@primus.com.jo, www.primus.com.jo A division of Computer Networking Services can restore or permanently delete the deleted files inside the system recycle-bin (2nd deletion mode). o Powerful Search Engine: CMS search engine can find all the matches stores in the pages contents and within the resource gallery files (search engine can find search matches within different text based files such as excel files, word documents, PDFs, etc). The end users can search for any required content within the published content pages and within the resource gallery files. All other system authorized users (with admin permissions) can search within all the system pages along with all the resource gallery files, regardless of their publishing status. o The system administrators will be able to monitor the system’s general usage and website statistics. These statistics will provide the following information: Number of visits per page. Compare visits figures for each page (compare the page visits between two periods). A list of all the countries from which visits were made. A list of viewed pages by each of the visiting countries. The system administrator can export the statistics data as an excel sheet. o The system allows only one person to edit the page content and information at any given time (check-out, check-in processing is supported; this is also known as “content versioning”). o Primus CMS enables the system users to set and define unique Meta tags for each page in addition to set and define unique keywords and descriptions also on the pages level. • Dynamic News Primus’ Dynamic News Engine will keep your internet or intranet site fully up-to-date quickly and simply, without even requiring knowledge of the internet.
