SECOND YEAR
First Semester
PROPERTY
4 Units
A comprehensive study of the laws on the different kinds of property,
ownership and its modification, co-ownership, possession, usufruct, easement or
servitudes, nuisance, and the different modes of acquiring ownership. This course
also deals with donation and the Condominium Acts, among others.
LABOR STANDARDS
3 Units
A study of the minimum labor standards laws including but not limited to
working conditions and employment benefits, salaries, and night shift
differentials. It also deals with relevant social legislations. It covers Book I-III of the
Labor Code.
SPECIAL CONTRACTS
2 Units
An in-depth course dealing with the provisions of the Civil Code on the
contract of sale, its nature and form, the obligations of the vendors and the
vendee, warranties, remedies from breaches of contract, conventional and legal
redemption. The course includes assignment of credits, the Bulk Sales Law, the
Retail Trade Nationalization Law and the contract of lease.
INVESTMENT AND BANKING LAWS
2 Units
A comprehensive study of the General Banking Act, the New Central Bank
Act, the Anti-Money Laundering Law, the Truth in Lending Act, and other related
laws and their implementing rules and regulations governing banks and non-bank
financial intermediaries including circulars of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
INSURANCE LAW
2 Units
A study of the Insurance Code and related laws, including the concepts and
functions of insurance, the nature of the insurance contract, insurable interest and
government regulation of the insurance business.
SPECIAL PENAL LAWS
2 Units
The subject deals with offenses and penalties provided for in special laws
such as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs of 2002 Act, the Anti-Graft and
Corrupt Practices Act, the Anti-Wire Tapping Law, the Anti-Carnapping Law, the
Anti-Gambling Law, BP 22, the Cattle Rustling Act, and other legislations which are
penal in nature outside of the Revised Penal Code.
ENVIRONMENTAL LAW
2 Units
An in-depth study of concepts and principles affecting environmental laws,
including constitutional considerations and effects of legislations relating to the
environment. Specifically, the course focuses on population and human resources,
food security, ecosystems resource for development, energy, industry, land use,
and environmental litigation.
TORTS AND DAMAGES
2 Units
A comprehensive study of the law on quasi-delicts and other types of torts
as well as the nature, classes and extent of damages provided for in the Civil
Code as elaborated by pertinent jurisprudence.
SECOND YEAR
Second Semester
SUCCESSION
4 Units
A detailed analysis and study of the Civil Code on testate and intestate
succession, including wills, institution of heirs, computation of legitimes of
compulsory heirs, disinheritance as well as partition and distribution of the estate
of the decedent.
NEGOTIBALE INSTRUMENTS LAW
3 Units
A thorough study of the statutory provisions governing negotiable
instruments as well as other commercial papers and money market instruments.
BUSINESS ORGANIZATION 1
2 Units
A course dealing with the contract of Partnership, Agency and Trusts based
on the provisions of the Civil Code of the Philippines and other pertinent laws.
CRIMINAL PROCEDURE
2 Units
A study of the Rules on Criminal Procedure including the basic rights of the
accused, the jurisdiction of courts and other matters relevant to the filing,
prosecution and resolution of criminal cases. The course includes substantive laws
affecting criminal procedure.
TRANSPORTATION LAWS
2 Units
A study of general principles and basic regulations governing common
carriers by land, sea and air based on the Code of Commerce, Civil Code and
special laws.
PUBLIC INTERNATIONAL LAW
2 Units
A study of legal principles governing international relations, treaties and
conventions based on the Charter of the United Nations Organization and the
decisions of international tribunals.
SPECIAL COMMERCIAL LAWS
2 Units
A survey of the Securities Regulation Code, the Code of Commerce, the
Electronic Commerce Act and other special commercial laws.
LEGAL MEDICINE
1 Unit
This course gives the students an overview of the principles relating to
medico-legal cases, including the methods and procedures of presenting and
examining a medical expert witness.
