LS-GK-07-CH OUTCOME EXPECTED OUTCOME EXPECTED • Students will sort living and non-living things. • Students will become more aware of the gifts God has given us on earth. • Students will describe the differences between living and non-living things. • Students will draw a picture of their favorite gifts from God. MATERIALS NEEDED • Chart paper • 4” x 4” pictures of living and non-living things • 1” x 1” pictures of living and non-living things – enough so each student has 5 living and 5 non-living pictures (boardmaker is perfect for this project) MATERIALS NEEDED • 4” x 4” pictures of living and non-living things (need pictures of things from all over the world) • 4” x 4 “ pictures of things too tiny to be seen (atoms, bacteria) • Globe • Two-column worksheet labeled living and non-living • Drawing paper • Glue stick • Crayons/markers • Pencil • Pencil SCIENCE METHODOLOGY RELIGION METHODOLOGY • REVIEW what is a living and a non-living thing. • ASK: What has God made? (everything) • WRITE a definition on chart paper for each. • • USING the 4x4 pictures, ask volunteers to tell if the item is living or non-living. SAY: Some things we can see and touch and other things are too tiny to see. • ASK: What are some things that we can see or feel? LS-GK-07-CH • ASK: How do you know it is living? How do you know if it is non-living? • ASK: What are some things that are too tiny for us to see? (germs, molecules) • GIVE each student the two-column worksheet. • SHOW the globe to the students. • HAVE the student write their name on the worksheet. • EXPLAIN that it is a model of our planet, the Earth. • EXPLAIN that they are to use the small (1x1) pictures to pick 5 living and 5 non-living pictures. • USE pictures to describe things from around the world. (koala bear, tepee, igloo, penguins, lizards, lions, whales, mountains) • ALLOW time for students to pick pictures. • USE pictures to show things we can see and not see (lava, bacteria, atoms) • ASK: Can you name some living things? (plants, animals, people) • ASK: Can you name some non-living things? (rocks, soil, minerals, water, sky, etc.) • ASK: Who made all the living and non-living things? (God) • HAVE the students take a piece of drawing paper, write their name on the back and on the front draw the 5 gifts from God that they love the most. • REMIND them to use correct colors for things and draw good details. • DISCUSS their 5 favorite gifts from God. • DISPLAY their drawings. • HAVE the students place the pictures on the two-column worksheet. • TEACHER should check each worksheet before having the student glue the pictures on the worksheet. • REVIEW with the class the 5 living things pictures. • REVIEW with the class the 5 non-living things pictures. • DISPLAY the worksheets. • POSIT: Our world is made up of living and non-living things.
