SCHOOL HYMN
Our Father, by whose servants
Our House was built of old,
Whose hand hath crowned her children
With blessings manifold,
For thine unfailing mercies
Far-strewn along our way,
With all who passed before us,
We praise thy name today.
The changeful years unresting
Their silent course have sped.
New comrades ever bringing
In comrades’ steps to tread;
And some are long forgotten,
Long spent their hopes and fears;
Safe rest they in thy keeping,
Who changest not with years.
They reap not where they laboured,
We reap what they have sown;
Our harvest may be garnered
By ages yet unknown.
The days of old have dowered us
With gifts beyond all praise;
Our Father, make us faithful
To serve the coming days.
Before us and beside us,
Still holden in thine hand,
A cloud unseen of witness,
Our elder comrades stand:
One family unbroken,
We join, with one acclaim,
One heart, one voice uplifting,
To glorify thy name.

Headmistress’ Report (2014-2015)
Speech Day – 20th November 2015
The academic year 2014-15 was yet another vibrant and rewarding
year for everyone at DGS as we celebrated our School’s 155th
anniversary. As we look back, we saw our trail lined with God’s
abundant blessings and grace, as in so many past years.
Over the past year, I would like to highlight two particular
developments. First, until the 1970s, DGS had the tradition of
offering boarding facilities to overseas students and some local
students. At our newly redeveloped DGS campus, we have actually
made provision for the relaunch of boarding facilities for about 60
students. This would help to cater for girls from around the region
and also local students who can benefit from a boarding education at
DGS. We see the advantage of diversifying our student mix and
broadening their exposure. Also, the School Council, the School
Management Committee and the Parents Teachers Association have
unanimously supported this move. With regard to this initiative,
the Education Bureau has already conveyed to us the Government’s
agreement in principle, and the School is in the process of drawing
up plans to build an additional floor and renovate two existing floors
of our main building, in the hope of welcoming our first boarding
cohort in two years’ time.
The second initiative winning overwhelming support last summer is
for DGS to offer an alternative curriculum offering girls the option to
sit for IGCSE Chinese Language coupled with the International
General Certificate of Education Advanced Level examinations in
different subjects. This alternative curriculum will be introduced to
mainly cater for the needs of those girls who find it difficult to attain
the HKDSE Level 3 proficiency in Chinese Language. As many
may be aware, this proficiency is a requirement for entering local
universities funded by the University Grants Committee. We shall
keep you updated on details of both these initiatives once we obtain
final approval from the Education Bureau and the relevant boards.
- 11 -
In line with the DGS ethos and good tradition, the philosophy of our
education encompasses five pillars, namely, zealous pursuit of
knowledge, aesthetic appreciation through music-making and the
performing arts, participation in sports, contribution to society
through community service, and spiritual nurturing which permeates
the activities in the first four areas, with the aim of building up our
girls to be Women of Excellence. Hence, we aim to cultivate in our
girls the traits of Steadfastness in Learning, Sensitivity towards
Beauty, Stamina in Sports, Generosity in Service, and Honouring
God and Respecting People.
Below is a brief account of the activities undertaken and
achievements attained in the five domains mentioned above. I invite
readers to refer to the full electronic reports from the different
departments on our School Homepage at www.dgs.edu.hk.
At this juncture, let me briefly summarise the academic
achievements in public examinations. The 153 girls in the 2014-15
graduating class who sat the HKDSE attained a total of 203 Level
5**, with 98 % of the subject entries awarded Level 3 or above.
Consequently, 90% of the girls met local university entrance
requirements. Deserving our heartfelt congratulations are Lau Hiu
Ching and Regina Yung, who received top scores in all subjects in
the HKDSE Examination. Andrea Au, who scored six 5**s in the
HKDSE, was first runner-up in the SCMP Student of Year in Science
and Mathematics.
For the local universities, 22 girls went to study Medicine, 1 to
Dentistry, 1 to Pharmacy and 23 entered the Law programme. 25
girls enrolled in various finance and business programmes, among
whom four have taken up offers to study International Business and
Global Management (IBGM) at the University of Hong Kong.
Other girls opted for a diverse range of courses like Architecture,
Biomedical Science, Engineering, English, Mathematics, Media and
Journalism, Philosophy, Physiotherapy and Urban Studies.
100% of our girls who applied overseas received offers of admission.
The UK universities include Cambridge University, London School
- 12 -
of Economics and Political Science, Imperial College London and
University College London, while the US colleges include Johns
Hopkins University, University of Pennsylvania and Duke University.
Some of our girls enjoyed offers from the University of Toronto and
University of British Columbia in Canada, the University of
Melbourne and Monash University in Australia and University of
Tokyo in Japan.
The above achievements of the girls would not have been possible
without the dedication and guidance of the teachers. I would also
like to record my appreciation of their willingness and untiring effort
to upgrade their professionalism through attending seminars and
courses despite their heavy teaching loads. Their readiness to
participate in the offering of the Alternative Curriculum is key to our
ability to make a swift adaptation to help address the needs of some
of our girls.
School life at DGS is rich and varied. Apart from academic studies,
we encourage girls to develop a healthy balance between active and
quiet pursuits, which they can enjoy even after graduation.
In terms of music, locally, our girls continued to take part in the
Hong Kong Schools Music Festival Competitions and Music
Interflows and came first in many events. For a full report of the
results, please refer to the report from the Music Department for their
achievements. The efforts of our music teachers have been reinforced
by the appointment of Mr Leung Kin Fung as our Performing Arts
Director. As a result, our musicians have had many more
opportunities to hone their skills through their performances in
Shenzhen, Macau and Taiwan. While overseas exchanges are worth
pursuing to broaden the girls’ exposure, we also had exchanges with
many local schools through many joint-school school programmes.
Such collaborations help to broaden the scope of music appreciation
amongst students across the community.
Last year we experimented with a special concerto competition.
Many girls participated and we were overwhelmed by the musical
competence of our girls. In the end, instead of choosing one single
- 13 -
winner, we chose five of them, namely a vocalist, a pianist, a
violinist, a cellist and a harpist (Christy Leung, who was first
runner-up in the SCMP Student of the Year for Performing Arts),
who performed five different concertos with our School Symphony
Orchestra at our 155th Anniversary Concert held in July.
Music at DGS is both a tool to bond, to serve and a means to
cultivate friendship. It was an especially poignant moment when
choristers comprising School Council members, old girls, parents
and current students from both the Junior and Senior Schools
gathered together for the very first time to sing a song of praise
during the 155th Anniversary Concert.
The Literature Appreciation Project, School Drama shows, talks on
theatrical art and literary study, and Drama Ensemble Workshops
continued to enrich the school life of the whole community.
We also had a solid year in debates and public speaking in 2014 – 15,
culminating in the School being the host of the Grand Finals of the
World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships
2015 that took place in Hong Kong. It is worth mentioning that the
event was held for the first time in Asia. Our team took part in the
10th Junior Debating Championship organized by the Hong Kong
Schools Debating Council and captured the Championship in the
Gold Division. Cheung Yik Ka was invited to join as a member of
Hong Kong Team to compete in the World Individual and Public
Speaking Tournament taking place later this year. Vanessa Ma,
who received the Hong Kong Outstanding Students Award, was the
Overall Champion and Best Speaker of the Tournament in the Hong
Kong Parliamentary Debating Champion 2015 organised by the
University of Hong Kong. Nicole Liu was awarded the SCMP
Student Linguist of the Year in English Language. Our School
hosted a Model United Nations forum in Hong Kong while many of
our girls took part in MUN events overseas too.
The Chinese debating teams took part enthusiastically, capturing the
Scholastic Cup with some team members being awarded Best
Speakers in various competition events. Elaine Wong was awarded
- 14 -
the SCMP Student Linguist of the Year in the Cantonese section. The
full list of prizes and awards received by our students can be found
in both the Speech Day booklet and the School Homepage.
While we advocate participation in sports for health and a healthy
lifestyle, our talented athletes, through their Stamina in Sports, the
third of the five traits, represented the School to compete in 25
inter-school sports competitions, achieving excellent results. We
were champions in 11 of the 25 competitions (including athletics,
cross-country, dodgeball, dragon boat, indoor rowing, life saving,
orienteering, squash, tennis, tenpin bowling, with the Swimming
Team capturing the 27th consecutive Overall Champion trophy).
We were also runner-up in another six competitions (archery,
badminton, basketball, fencing, table-tennis, volleyball). Consequently,
DGS emerged as the Champion in the Bank of China Hong Kong
(BOCHK) Rising Star Award for the sixth year and came second in
the BOCHK Bauhinia Bowl Award. Cheung Kiu Wai was awarded
the BOCHK Sports Girl of the Year, Leung Wing Hei was awarded
the BOCHK Rising Star Award, while six athletes were awarded the
Outstanding Athlete Awards in their respective sports.
Kitty Tam, a golfer, was awarded the SCMP Student of the Year for
Sports. For the newly introduced Grantham Foundation Fund
Outstanding Athlete Awards, Yeung Pak Wai won the Ten Sport
Excellence Award while nine other athletes won the same award in
their specific categories. Our athletes’ prowess in sports also led to a
number of them being selected to represent Hong Kong in regional
and international competitions in various sports.
As learning in and out of school is seen as a coherent whole, I would
also like to give parents an idea of our Overseas Programmes &
Overseas Exchange Programmes. These aim to give our students
greater cultural exposure and imbue in them an appreciation for
cultural diversity. This year, apart from our usual vibrant exchanges
with our partner schools in Australia, India, Mainland China, New
Zealand and Singapore, we look forward to starting exchange visits
with St. Andrew’s Priory School for Girls in Honolulu, Hawaii and
St. Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ School in Brisbane, Australia.
- 15 -
While students are overseas, we make sure that they are still
connected to home. Students are required to write a blog describing
their daily experiences during the exchange. Then there are written
and oral reports from the groups of students after each trip and in
most cases students are required to share their experiences with the
whole school. Through all these various activities, the students
develop useful research and presentation skills, broaden their
horizons and heighten their environmental awareness. Most of our
partner schools reciprocated with visits to DGS and I would
especially like to thank parents who very kindly hosted these
overseas students at their homes.
With regard to Community Service, our School’s vision of
encouraging, nurturing and cultivating our students to contribute
their service towards the School, their family and the local and
international communities has remained the same since its inception
in 1860. Internally, the Big Sister Programme enables senior students
to build relationships with new girls joining the School, thus helping
them to adapt to the school life at DGS. From serving the new
arrivals, and offering a helping hand to the underprivileged in the
neighbourhood, such as the Rainbow D.R.E.A.M (Drama, Reading,
English, Arts and Movement) Camp 2015, to partnering with NGOs
in large-scale activities, such as the Palliative Care Programme for
Terminally Ill Patients at the Hospice Care Centre of Queen
Elizabeth Hospital, we hope to direct our students’ hearts and effort
towards the community so as to make a positive difference in the
lives of the people they meet.
With the aim of providing Spiritual Nurturing to Honour God and
Respect People, the Religious Education Department organized
activities which instil in our girls Christian / moral values. During
Morning Assembly, students and teachers congregated in the
Auditorium to start the day by worshipping God under the
overarching theme ‘Seeking God’s Strength’. To complement our
walk with God, Rev. Menear and his team from St. Andrew’s Church
came on Friday mornings to minister to us God’s teachings. We also
bade fond farewell to Rev. Menear, who retired and returned to
Australia.
- 16 -
Christian Youth Fellowship committee members conduct weekly
meetings during lunchtime on Mondays under the guidance of
Christian teachers. During the year, the Gospel Week in November
was held to share the Gospel and to celebrate the Harvest Festival.
Apart from other whole-form activities, we are grateful to our old
girls of different school years, who came back to conduct the S5
Retreat for their younger sisters, sharing with them wisdom in the
journey of life.
To further empower the student body and to deepen our civic
education, in June and July 2015 the whole school participated in a
democratic process to elect or recommend suitable candidates to be
their student leaders. Through this exercise, the school developed a
stronger sense of belonging and learnt more about selecting the most
capable leaders through democratic expression and election. I would
also like to take this opportunity to reaffirm our philosophy in
education here at DGS, that is, to give equal opportunities to all
students and to help them all reach a high standard in whatever they
endeavour to achieve.
I would like to congratulate all girls, irrespective of their
examination results as we are proud of them for the fact that they
have been able to improve upon themselves and meet their own
goals. I think it is important that every student in the School
recognises that each person has her combination of abilities and
limitations, and the challenge is to better oneself and surpass one's
own record.
To help equip teachers with relevant knowledge and skills in
providing emotional support and academic guidance for student
development, a 2-day Staff Development Programme was organized
in April. The active participation and contribution of teachers in the
programme reflected their dedication towards enhancing their
professionalism. Teachers treasured the opportunity to discuss school
issues and gave a lot of constructive comments and suggestions in
teaching and learning, which helped the School to identify the future
training needs of teachers.
- 17 -
The provision of quality education at our School was made possible
also through the support of many members of the DGS family and I
would like to take this opportunity to thank them. First and foremost,
I would like to thank the EDB represented by Mrs. Jacqueline Ling
for their expert advice and support. To our parents I thank them for
their dedication, which enabled us to offer their daughters learning
opportunities both in and beyond the formal classroom. Also, their
generous donations last year towards our Annual Appeal gave us
extra financial resources to engage in projects which enhanced
teaching and learning. Many parents also devoted time to give us
much needed professional advice and help, which ultimately brought
fruitful benefits to our students.
We also thank the many members of the Diocesan Old Girls’
Association. They gave us support in a large variety of ways –
career talks, job shadowing, sponsorship of scholarships; in fact in
whatever we ask of them. So many old girls were so generous with
their time that they would always avail themselves to us. We thank
them for their timely help, especially when we were undertaking
projects beyond classroom learning.
At this juncture, I would like to record my gratitude to the Chairman
of the School Council the Rt. Rev. Andrew Chan, Mrs. D. Ho the
Supervisor, our Honorary Treasurer Mrs. Josephine Chang, the Legal
Team headed by Ms Benita Yu, the School Management Committee,
the Building Subcommittee headed by Mr. Hardy Lok, and the
Repairs and Maintenance Subcommittee headed by Mr. Marco Wu,
for their valuable guidance and devotion that helped me in delivering
my responsibilities as Headmistress.
Last but not least, I would like to thank to the following members of
staff who had served the school well and left us: Miss K.M. Tsui,
who retired after 25 years of service and Miss R. Wong, who has
joined DGJS as the Head of English. Other members of staff include
Dr. M. Coulter, Mr. T. Cheng, Mr. T. Tse, Miss K.K. Chan and Miss
L. Ip. I hope that the new members who have joined us will enjoy
working with us and find their job rewarding.
- 18 -
This report would not be complete without expressing thanks to God,
our Heavenly Father, who has throughout the years greatly blessed
our School as we work each day for the betterment of our students.

Junior School Headmistress’ Report (2014-2015)
2015 marks the 155th Anniversary of our School. Formal
celebrations began with the Anniversary Concerts at the DGS
Auditorium on 10th and 11th July, 2015. These events showcased
the School’s musical talents, rich history and comradeship when
students, parents, old girls and friends of the school gathered at the
campus to enjoy two evenings of delightful performances. The
Junior School made its debut by forming a special concert choir
comprising different members of the DGS family, including Bishop
Andrew Chan, Chairman of the School Council, Mrs. Doris Ho, the
School Supervisor, the Senior and Junior School Headmistress,
Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association, President of the DOGA
Ltd., DGJS teachers, students and parents and DGS alumnae. All
were united in one heart when they sang the hymn “Gloria” to praise
our Almighty Father for His manifold blessings on the School in the
past 155 years. On the second day, it was the DGS musicians’ turn
to exhibit their talent. The musicians and the DGS Dance Team
invited a thundering round of applause from the audience during the
finale piece ‘Bolero’, where fourteen DGJS girls joined the DGS
Orchestra while another fifteen were part of the DGS Dance team.
This was a very rewarding experience for everyone in the one big
DGS family.
All of us should appreciate the heavy emphasis on students’
character development in our school. Promoting the spirit of
“Daily Giving Joyful Service” was a major focus in the Junior
School in this academic year. Students from Primary One to
Primary Six were encouraged to participate in the Daily Giving
Joyful Service Scheme to serve the school community. The
number of service work opportunities increased so that students of
all years could eagerly serve the school. You could see school
ambassadors serving as guides to the new Primary One parents
during their orientation. Little Gardeners helped look after the
plants around the school. The DGJS Library began recruiting
students as early as Primary Three to help manage the library and
work alongside with the Library Mums. Some Primary Five girls
took up the task as school photographers, taking pictures during
school events for the school website. Four Whole School Cleaning
- 68 -
Days were organised throughout the school year for students to take
ownership of their classroom and to create a clean and tidy learning
environment for themselves and others. These opportunities and
many more nurtured in our students a sense of belonging and
responsibility.
To further widen our students’ horizon on
exemplary citizenship in Hong Kong, special guests who were
alumnae and former parents were invited to speak to our students
during morning assemblies throughout the year. Guest speakers
shared their service work and experiences, such as teaching in a
village school in Cambodia; organising anti-smoking campaigns
around the city to promote healthy living; volunteering time as a
foster parent at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
to help abused animals; and working at Changing Young Lives
Foundation to support and empower underprivileged children.
Through our speakers’ heartfelt sharing, our students learned that no
matter how busy their lives are, they can still serve the community.
Students were also actively involved in fundraising and
charitable activities throughout the year to raise money for those who
are less fortunate. Brownies sold boxes of cookies to help raise
money for elderly people in Hong Kong. The proceeds from the
Primary Six sales and games stalls at the School’s annual Mini
Bazaar went to helping the elderly who suffer from abuse, and
children and families living with heart disease and cancer. Students
also donated generously to Hong Kong Red Cross to provide aid to
the victims of Nepal’s earthquake. Other charitable activities
included the Famine Lunch organised by the Christian Youth
Fellowship of the Senior School and Dumpling Fundraising for
Community Chest.
Despite busily helping around the school and others, our
students also achieved excellence in academics, performing arts and
sports.
The School is committed to promote a reading culture, which
creates pleasure and builds skills for lifelong learning. With a
comprehensive
extensive
reading
scheme
and
book
recommendations from the Chinese and English Book Clubs,
students are encouraged and motivated to make reading a relaxing
pastime. A Reading Picnic was held on World Book Day. It was
- 69 -
a heart-warming scene to have small groups of Primary One and
Two students sitting cosily around their teachers to listen to stories
during lunchtime, while others participate in reading activities
organised by the school librarians.
Authors also visited our school to promote literature
appreciation. All students had the unique opportunity to meet an
Australian wildlife photographer and author, Jan Latta. The famous
Taiwanese children’s writer, Wang Wen Hua, was invited to give
three sessions of talks to the lower primary students, upper primary
plus secondary students, and parents respectively. Mr. Wang’s
sharing aroused interest in reading Chinese books and inspired
creativity in our students. His humorous speech and lively style as
reflected in his books were warmly received.
Our students’ love for reading allows them to develop strong
English and Chinese language skills. In the Hong Kong Young
Writers Awards 2015, the story by Alexa Ma of Primary Five was
published in “New Tales of the Pearl River Delta, the 2015 Hong
Kong Young Writers Awards Anthology.” In the International
Competitions and Assessments for Schools 2015, organised by the
University of New South Wales, our girls once again achieved
commendable results, demonstrating their excellent command of the
English Language and creativity. Out of the 199 students between
Primary Three and Six who participated in the competition, 75 were
awarded Certificates of High Distinction, ranking the top 1% of the
participants in Hong Kong, and three students received the Medal
Awards for coming first in Hong Kong in their contemporary year.
For speech and drama, our students’ accomplishments were
similarly distinctive at the 66th Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival.
The girls won 35 first places, 44 second places and 46 third places in
the English solo classes. We were also strong in the Cantonese and
Putonghua classes with 17 first places, 39 second places and 45 third
places. Our School also captured the championships in the Open
Section of the Primary Two, Primary Three and Primary Five
English Harmonic Choral Speaking Groups respectively.
Our girls delighted in hosting drama production for their peers,
teachers and parents. All our Primary Four and Five girls
- 70 -
participated enthusiastically in their English drama and oral lessons
and learned basic drama techniques. The students took ownership
of their production, sourced their own props and costumes and
developed it under the guidance of their drama tutor. Everyone had
a part to play at the end of year drama performance in the school hall
to demonstrate the projects of their hard work to their fellow
schoolmates, teachers and parents. The Putonghua Club also
produced a Putonghua drama and the School enjoyed their
performance in the annual Putonghua Variety Show.
The
Putonghua drama was also the Champion in the 11th Hong Kong
Schools Putonghua Drama Competition, organised by Man Kwan
Educational Organisation and The Jockey Club Eduyoung College,
and co-organised by Education Bureau. In addition, a drama course
was organised for some Primary Two and Three students as an
extra-curricular activity throughout the school year.
They
performed Oliver Twist in our School Hall in June. Some Primary
Four and Five students joined the Junior Classics Club and put up a
school production Treasure Island in May 2015.
To make better use of the Wi-Fi school campus and modern
technology, the School was equipped with a total of 135 iPads and
36 Apple TVs for mobile learning. With these tools, besides
exploring different apps and methods on using iPads in IT lessons,
the IT Department started to integrate the use of iPads in teaching
and learning in different academic subjects. The School arranged
staff development days for all teachers on e-teaching with iPads,
with the support of different apps such as Edmodo, Casper Focus and
Google Drive. The IT Department, together with different guest
speakers, also gave an update on flipped teaching, the Use of Apple
TV, S-Mark marking system with the use of tablets, and the
revamped computerised report card system. Our IT Department
successfully collaborated with different subject teachers to design
e-learning and mobile lesson plans. Students from Primary One to
Six enjoyed using iPads during their lessons. From using apps
provided to consolidate Mathematical concepts, to using it as a
problem solving tool in a Mathematics treasure hunt, to learning a
whole environmental unit during GS1 lessons, students are exposed
to a different teaching style, which inspired them to be more
independent learners.

Gifted students in Science were given the opportunity to take
part in the Gifted Young Scientist Workshop to learn advanced
scientific concepts outside of the School’s curriculum. Students in
the beginner’s group were encouraged to carry out a scientific
investigation on a topic of their own choice. In the 2014-2015
Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition
organised by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association
Science Innovation Centre, Audrey Miu, Vivienne Tsui and
Cassandra Tung of Primary Five came second for their project on the
factors that affect the rotation time and stability of a flying paper
dragonfly.
Music activities continue to be a happy and vibrant hallmark
for the school. The passion and love for making music in our
students led to their success in the 67th Hong Kong Schools Music
Festival. Our three choirs participated in six events and secured
three first, two second and one third places. The Senior and Junior
Percussion Bands attained excellent results and came first and
second respectively, while our String Orchestra was placed third.
In the 2014 Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows, the two school
teams, the Symphony Orchestra and the String Orchestra, were both
awarded the Gold Award in the Contest. The DGJS Hymn Singing
Group participated in the Yau Tsim Mong District Liaison
Committee Singing Contest 2015 (Primary School) for the second
time, and they were the champion for two consecutive years. They
were invited by the Yau Tsim Mong District School Liaison
Committee to perform again in the Annual Prize Giving Ceremony
in June 2015.
In addition to giving beautiful musical performances to
different audience, students also learned Christian values through
music. This year, the Korean Children’s Choir went on their
missionary tour to Hong Kong and shared the message of God’s love
at our school through different forms of performing arts such as
percussion, pantomime, Taekwondo, singing and dancing. An
American band, The New America Singers, came to give a fabulous
evangelical musical performance. The students enjoyed dancing
and singing along with the band.
Participation in sports has always played an important role in
- 72 -
facilitating the all-round development of our girls. 2014 – 2015
was truly a fruitful year for the DGJS sports team members as they
achieved outstanding results in various inter-school competitions in
the Kowloon West Area. The School was the champion in the
Kowloon West Inter-school Swimming A and B Grade, Athletics A,
B and C Grade, Table Tennis A and B Grade, Fencing A grade,
Badminton and Volleyball competitions. Our teachers and players
spent many hours of hard work in their training programmes, so it
was truly satisfying to see them achieve their goals. Once again,
the School was awarded the Gold Prize for the best achievement in
sports in the Kowloon West Area. A special Gold Cup was
presented to the School for winning the Gold Prize in the girls’
section for twenty-six consecutive years. I would like to highlight a
few among our many outstanding athletes. Justine Tam of Primary
Six received the A.S. Watson Group Hong Kong Student Sports
Award. Maia Cheung of Primary Five was the Sportsgirl of the
Year in the Kowloon West District. Lam Hoi Kiu of Primary Six
represented the Hong Kong Swimming Team in the 51st Milo/Pram
Malaysia National Age Group Swimming Championships 2015,
organised by the Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia and came
home with three gold, three silver and one bronze medals. Isabelle
Xiong was the champion in Girls A Grade in the Hong Kong Island
and Kowloon Region Inter-Area Primary Schools Table Tennis
Competition. Apart from coming first in Girls’ Single in All Hong
Kong Schools Jing Ying Table Tennis Tournament and Hang Seng
All Schools Table Tennis Championship, Isabelle has also achieved
outstanding results in different overseas table tennis competitions.
I would also like to extend my congratulations to Adelaide
Pang of Primary Six for being selected as one of the Most
Outstanding Students in the Yau Tsim Mong District. Nicola
Yeung of Primary Six was the winner in the 6th Outstanding Primary
School Students Award Scheme, organised by the Heung To
Education Organisation Ltd. Charlotte Ngai of Primary Three was
chosen as one of the eight MassMutual Junior Astronauts from Hong
Kong to visit the US Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, where she
participated in real astronaut training and activities.
In this school year, the School presented sports scholarships to
20 students at $1,500 each to recognise their outstanding
- 73 -
performance and teamwork in sports. Music scholarships were
presented to 29 students at $1,000 to $2,000 each in recognition of
their excellent performance in instrumental classes and contributions
to the orchestra respectively.
My congratulations also go to Chan Tsz Wing of Primary Six
for receiving the Bishop Ho Ming Hua Scholarship of $50,000.
This scholarship is presented to the recipient of the Mrs Rebecca Yip
Shield for her outstanding performance in Scripture, conduct and
service.
I would also like to thank the PTA for extending the award
from one PTA scholarship per class to two scholarships per class this
year. The PTA scholarships recognise good conduct and
commitment to service and the recipients are nominated by the
teachers.
The above scholarship schemes show the importance of
virtuous development and service to the school under the spirit of
whole person development.
We are also delighted to receive some very generous DGS
scholarships, the DGS Award for Academic Excellence 2014-2015,
that were awarded to eleven Primary Six students for their
outstanding academic achievement in DGJS.
Five students
received the DGS full scholarship and six students received a 75%
scholarship for a total of six school years to support their study from
Secondary One to Six in DGS.
To conclude my report, I wish to express my deepest
appreciation to all my staff members for their contribution to a most
fruitful year. My sincere thanks are extended to the Parent Teacher
Association and Diocesan Old Girls’ Association Ltd., whose
support and devotion to the School are the pillars of success. I owe
much gratitude also to members of the School Council, especially to
the capable leadership of the Rt. Revd. Andrew Chan, the Chairman,
Mrs. Doris Ho, JP, the Supervisor, Mrs. Josephine Chang, the
Honorary Treasurer, Mrs. Benita Yu, the Legal Advisor and Mrs.
Stella Lau, JP, DGS Headmistress, for their guidance, support and
trust to the Junior School.
