Writing instrument components Standard Alloys for Writing Instruments Lebronze alloys Germany Precision Drawn Wire, Rod, Blanks, and Profiles Lebronze alloys Germany manufactures specialty copper alloys with unparalleled precision, reliability, and the strongest productline. Lebronze alloys Germany has achieved a worldwide reputation as a leading supplier to the writing instrument industry. Product range Lebronze alloys Germany’s product range includes: • • • • • • wire and rod in brass and nickel silver for the production of ballpoint pen tips; blanks in brass and nickel silver for the production of ballpoint pen tips; new alloy NSA for cost reduction and “best writing pleasure” replacement of stainless steel ball point pen tips; brass rods for machined barrels of pens; brass rods for mechanisms (mechanical movement components); profiles for drafting and drawing instruments. Pay-off/De-coiler Systems The wire is usually supplied in standard coils or in drums of about 250 to 400 kg. (500 to 800 lbs.) Our large packing with pay-off de-coiling systems enables our customers to increase productivity by allowing higher feed speeds, longer run times, and reduce setup times. Innovation Products Lebronze alloys Germany’s R&D department focus lies in products that are: • • • • high strength Next Generation Nickel Silver Alloy; high formability New Nickel Silver Alloy (NSA) for cold-heading applications; environmental-friendly Pb-free brasses (EnviB1) and Pb-free Nickel Silver (EnviN1) alloys conform with new legislation restricting the use of hazardous metals, such as Pb, Bi, or Be; corrosion resistant pen tips suitable for water-based gel-ink applications; Eng. Stress [N/mm2] High Strength & High Ductility Next Generation Nickel Silver Stress strain curve of high strength and high ductility NS compared to standard NS and stainless steel material typically used for pen tips Eng. Strain [%] The right choice of material combinations The performance of pen tips is largely dependent on the right choice of materials combination: the ink, the ball material and the tip material. Classically we differentiate the choice of combinations based on the type of ink: water-based gel inks with corrosion resistant WC-balls and steel tips, or oil-based inks with common WC-balls and brass or nickel silver. Lebronze alloys Germany efforts in the development of corrosion resistant nickel silver alloys suitable for oil-based and gel-based ink applications combined with the good machinability and/or cold-headability will result in a higher added-value for the customer. L ebronze alloys group was born from the integration of different companies specializing mainly in copper alloys but also aluminium alloys and specialty steels. Thanks to a multidisciplinary know- how, the group is today at the heart of heavy industries such as Aerospace, Oil& Gas, Power, Railway but also in sectors manufacturing smaller equipment and products. One of the group’s major strengths is based upon its fully integrated production processes. All its products are manufactured in 10 complementary facilities which all offer industrial technologies (foundry, extrusion, forging, hot stamping, wire drawing, machining, centrifugal casting). This particularity guarantees a complete traceability and thus a perfect control of quality. With a task force of 1,100 persons, a turnover of 220 million (90% exports), over 150 alloys, more than 30,000 tons of foundry capacity, 20,000 tons extrusion capacity, more than 100 machining centers and dedicated Innovation & Research departments, Lebronze alloys supports its customer from conception through to fabrication of any kind of parts.
