Registering for Classes via TESTUDO

What is TESTUDO?
TESTUDO is the site name for the interactive Web services for students. You can access
TESTUDO from - http://www.testudo.umd.edu/

Registering for classes
Before you begin the registration process on Testudo, you will need to have the course numbers
of the classes you wish to take available. Course numbers use a 4-letter 3-number naming
convention (i.e., INFM600). Sometimes a class will have a letter designation after the course
number, e.g. INFM718A.
You will also need to have the section number of the classes you wish to take, along with the
number of credit hours for each class. You can find this information in the online Schedule of
Classes, http://www.testudo.umd.edu/ScheduleOfClasses.html. Courses at Shady Grove will be
designated by the letters ‘SG’ in the section number.
From the Schedule of Classes Web page, find the semester you are registering for and choose
course listings. Select the 4-letter department code for the classes you wish to take (LBSC for
MLS students and INFM for MIM students)
Below is a sample entry from the Schedule of Classes with the section numbers and credit hours
in bold type.
LBSC601 Information Use; (3 credits) Grade Method: REG/AUD.
Prerequisite: permission of department. Nature and use of
information and knowledge; model of information/ knowledge cycle;

systems. Information users and their needs. Methods of inquiry and problem
solving.

Once you know the course number, section number, and credit hours for the courses you wish to
take, you are ready to register.
1. Point your browser to http://www.testudo.umd.edu/
2. From the menu on the left, choose Office of the Registrar.
3. Under the left column labeled Limited Access, choose Registration (Drop/Add).
4. Select the term you are registering for.
5. You will need to use your Directory ID and password to log in. If you have not created your
Directory ID and password, please go here: http://www.oit.umd.edu/new/student.html.
International Students, please note that when setting up the Directory ID, you will be asked
to submit the last five digits of your SID (Student ID). This is not the
same as your University ID. These are the steps for finding your Student
ID:
1
Registering for Classes via TESTUDO
i. Login to your Application Supplemental Form (ASF) at
http://apra.umd.edu
ii.
Click on #1 “Verify Contact Information.”
iii. You will see a number listed in the field “Student ID (SID).”
Remember that it is different from the University ID which is also listed
there. The Student ID (SID) is the number you will need when setting up
your Directory ID and password.
6. Enter the requested data in the table:




course number (with no spaces between the letters and numbers)
section number
for grading method, letter R (for regular) should be there by default
enter the number of credit hours
When you have typed in all the data for each course, click enter. Once you register, you will see
color coded dots beside every class for which you have registered. Those dots correspond to the
colors used in your class calendar, which you will see if you scroll to the bottom of the registration
page. The colors themselves mean nothing, so don’t be alarmed if you see a red dot next to a
course.
7. If there are no problems with your registration, you should see a bar graph of the days of the
week showing the number of hours you have registered for. To complete the registration process,
click sign off. You will see a weekly schedule with your class times blocked out. Choose the
booklist button to link to the textbooks for your classes. (NOTE: the textbook lists are not usually
available until a week or two before the semester starts.)
8. If there is a problem with your registration, you will see some type of error message. Some
error messages you may be able to fix yourself, for instance if you tried to register for two classes
that meet at the same time.
9. To be added to a waitlist for a course, you must enter in the section number of the course (e.g.
0101). It will not offer the waitlist option if you have entered only the course number.
