TutorTracks EPASS Page 1 Meet the EPASS Captains 2012-2013 Carlie Marks Senior - Psychology Major Meet the Captains “The EPASS program has given me the opportunity, and really, the gift to teach others. This program allows peers to encourage, motivate, and energize learning, bringing life into the material outside of the classroom. It has been a rewarding and exciting experience that I am proud to be a part of.” In an effort to introduce and incorporate a continuous hiring and training cycle, we have created three EPASS Captain Positions. The EPASS Captains are primarily responsible for supporting new EPASS Peer Tutors in their respective roles, reviewing new applications and conducting interviews of those applicants, and making recommendations on hiring as well as the design and implementation of training workshops and EPASS policies. Victoria Reines Senior - Biology Major/Ethics Minor “Tutoring, through the EPASS program, allows me to feel like I am really making a difference and giving back to the Emory community. It is so rewarding to see students improve in each session and throughout the semester and it is very nice to receive emails about how much they appreciate my help. Further, the opportunity to tutor and teach material in different ways has allowed me to incorporate different study techniques into my own studies; and I think I have become a better, more creative student because of my time with EPASS.” www.epass.emory.edu Sam Sanders Senior - Economics and Mathematics Major “EPASS has been a great part of my time at Emory. The program has introduced me to a lot of amazing people and different ways of thinking. Being a tutor not only gives me the chance to help other students with subjects I like, but it also allows me to grow and learn even more.” Page 2 EYE ON EPASS In the coming weeks… The EPASS Peer Tutoring program has expanded its hiring practices to accept new tutor applications on a rolling basis. As a result, we are in a perpetual state of hiring new tutors. We anticipate that this endeavor will provide us with the oppor tunity to improve the quality of our tutor training program and in turn ensure that we continue to provide the ver y best content specific suppor t to students enrolled in the college. Recent par tnerships with Ch- Emor y, Emor y’s undergraduate Chemistr y club, resulted in a drop -in tutoring session that was attended by approximately 200 students enrolled in Chemistr y 141! We hope to continue to develop this collaboration with Ch- Emor y and provide additional tiers of suppor t for students enrolled in this rigorous course. The Association for the Tutoring Profession (ATP) will hold its annual conference in Atlanta in March of 2013! In an ef for t to provide our tutoring staf f with access to the ver y best training available, EPASS has three one- day scholarships available to tutors that will be returning as members of our staf f in the 2013 -2014 academic year. The scholarship criteria will be posted to our current staf f by November 19th. In addition, EPASS will be hosting a campus tour of our facilities for out of town guests attending the conference! We continue to of fer a variety of appointment options including small group tutoring appointments with t wo or three students, as well as, 30 minute tutoring appointments and occasional drop -in alternatives. Of course we are still of fering the one on one tutoring that EPASS is known campus wide for. For a complete listing of all of our tutoring availabilities, log in to TutorTrac with your Emor y University Net work ID.
