That’s why we’re proud of our long association with New Zealand and its people. MARAC is one of New Zealand’s largest finance companies, which gives us the advantage of economies of scale and diversity that smaller, newer finance companies may not have. MARAC is wholly New Zealand-owned and operated. It is a financial services subsidiary of Pyne Gould Corporation Limited, which listed on the New Zealand Exchange Limited's NZSX in 2004. Pyne Gould Corporation’s history stretches back to 1851, when the founders of its long established stock and station subsidiary, Pyne Gould Guinness Limited, started business in Christchurch. MARAC’s own story began in 1952 with the establishment of Allied Finance. The timeline below shows how various companies have come together to make up what is now MARAC. We have combined all the strengths and history of our amalgamating companies to become the successful finance group* we are today. Our record of steady growth means you can be sure about our financial foundations (see graphs below). “History is important when it comes to trust.” TIMELINE Finance & Discounts Limited 1936 1959 2000 Commenced Trading Acquired by Pyne Gould Guinness Amalgamation Allied Finance Limited 1953 1992 2000 2001 2003 Commenced Trading Acquired by Pyne Gould Corporation Finance & Discounts Amalgamated Frontline Finance Amalgamated MARAC Amalgamated 1997 2000 2001 Commenced Trading Acquired by Pyne Gould Corporation Amalgamation (now known as MARAC Finance Limited) FRONTLINE Finance Limited 1984 2000 2003 Commenced Trading Acquired by Pyne Gould Corporation Amalgamation MARAC Finance Limited (under its former name) * The finance group is made up of MARAC Finance Limited, MARAC Securities Limited and MARAC Investments Limited. That’s why all our staff are trained to focus on personal service and tailored solutions. To give you great service our people need to be knowledgeable, experienced and easily contactable. And that’s what you’ll find at MARAC – because with us, personal service comes first. We work with guidelines, not rigid rules, so we’re often able to find solutions that most other finance companies and banks can’t offer. Flexibility is central in our approach to meeting customers’ needs. We’ll take the time to find out what you need and work with you to find a tailored solution. We understand that when you want finance, you want answers and commitment quickly. So that’s what we deliver. In this age of technology, we keep up with the latest innovations to ensure we are constantly improving our service. But we don’t let technology take over. We know that our customers want to talk to a person, not to a machine. That’s why our freephone number has no automated menus – you’ll always talk to a trained receptionist who will transfer you to the right person for your enquiry. “Personal service comes first.” SERVICE 3 The difference is our people At MARAC we know that our customers want to deal with people who understand their needs and who can help them find the right finance solution. Alan developed his talents in over 25 years of finance at a senior level with several of New Zealand’s largest corporates before bringing his expertise to MARAC. “MARAC is a business we as employees all believe in. We strive for quality, for growth, for recognition but never at the expense of our corporate values we are committed to.” Chris Flood General Manager Consumer Chris knows MARAC well after working for the Company for the last 10 years. As a result, MARAC has industry benchmark low levels of arrears and bad debt expense. “MARAC promotes quality and consistency in all that we do – our people, our assets, our profitability, our customers and our service to them. In guiding the credit function of the organisation, we play an important role in all of these areas, in making sound lending decisions and managing the credit risks that are an integral part of our business.” “Your finance company is in good hands.” 5 The difference is our Standard & Poor’s credit rating At MARAC, we’re proud to be one of the few finance companies in New Zealand to have a BBB- (Stable)* credit rating from Standard & Poor’s. MARAC was the first non-bank owned finance company in New Zealand to receive this much coveted rating, which is recognised by the international investment community as investment grade. Our rating is an internationally acknowledged mark of MARAC’s credit quality, and supports MARAC’s position as one of the leading finance companies in New Zealand. Standard & Poor’s follow a stringent process to assess a bank or finance company’s credit rating. They carry out a detailed financial analysis covering such things as asset quality, funding and liquidity, profitability and capitalisation. They also consider ownership structure, management experience, governance, risk management and position in the industry. This rigorous examination results in an overall rating ranging from AAA (extremely strong) through to CC (highly vulnerable). Only companies who achieve a rating of BBB- or above are regarded by the international investment community as investment grade and companies assigned BB+ or below are considered speculative. *Standard & Poor’s ratings are statements of opinion, not statements of fact or recommendations to buy, hold or sell any securities. Ratings may be changed, withdrawn or suspended at any time. Direct finance We know your time is valuable, so our experienced financial services managers will meet you on-site instead of asking you to come to us – regardless of the size of your operation. This helps us really get to know your business before we start to talk finance. Our aim is to be a long-term partner in your success and growth. We have financial services managers in each of our ten offices, with sound local knowledge and years of experience in dealing with many different business types in your region. You can be confident they’ll understand what you need. MARAC offers flexible finance solutions that take into account such things as seasonal income fluctuations. Here are the most common finance options we can offer direct to our commercial customers: • commercial loan agreement – a straightforward way to fund the purchase of new plant or equipment, on terms tailored to suit you. This product also gives you the ability to raise additional funds against your existing business assets. • max (revolving credit) products – three convenient ongoing flexible loan facilities that have a single pre-approved limit. This limit allows you to deposit and redraw the principal sum based on your business’ needs and to reduce interest costs. Monthly statements are provided for easy administration. -onemax, a single facility with a pre-approved limit ideal for multiple purchases (such as vehicles, plant or equipment). -creditmax, an interest only facility which uses the assets of your business as security. You can draw down or repay as desired. -multimax, you have a fixed limit to allow for a number of future purchases, but separate loans for each purchase. This makes it easy to track the balance outstanding against any one asset. 8 • letter of credit – this enables customers to purchase assets from overseas. • finance lease – on balance sheet funding for the purchase of additional assets. • operating lease – off balance sheet funding of assets, which provides certain tax advantages. • commercial property – funding of up to 80% for owner-occupied premises. Your sales representatives can keep control of the whole sales process, as each of them will be supplied with their own quoting package. They’ll be able to write their own finance agreements, which will lead to closing more non-cash sales. And we’ll back you up with a fast, efficient decision on the finance. We aim to provide excellent personal service to our equipment suppliers. One of our financial services managers will take time to get to know you and your customer profiles, to ensure you have the right products to meet their needs Here are the finance options we offer through our equipment suppliers: • commercial loan agreement – to fund the purchase of new and used business assets • rental agreement – the customer pays a convenient monthly rental for a fixed term, without the need for ownership at the end • lease to buy – the customer pays a monthly lease amount and owns the asset at the end of the term. It is a fixed interest rate, fixed term investment, which will suit you if you are looking for the certainty of regular returns. MARAC Deferred Interest Term Deposit This is also a fixed interest rate, fixed term investment, but with all returns deferred to maturity (rather than regularly as with the Term Deposit product above). MARAC Capital Drawdown Term Deposit This is similar to our MARAC Term Deposit product, however it has a special feature which allows regular repayments to be made, which are made up of interest earned as well as part of your investment principal. This product is ideal for people who need to make regular monthly or quarterly payments for things such as school fees or rest home payments. It’s also good for those that are retired and whose income levels may necessitate some use of investment principal to cover living expenses. 15 MARAC Floating Rate Term Deposit Here’s an example of how it works.
