A Message from the Rabbi
Over the years I have been privileged to lead group tours to
the land of Israel. From the early 70’s at both Central
Synagogue and Emanu-El of Dallas, and during my tenure as
president of Hebrew Union College, I have led many groups to
Israel. Each trip had its significant and unique qualities and
many precious memories.

During the last four years we have talked about a group from the JCOH visiting
Israel and Petra. There are so many wonderful things happening in Israel and each
time one visits many more new possibilities emerge. I am so pleased to inform you
that we are planning a group tour for the JCOH a year from now, March 2012. We
will visit many new sites, doing a full circle of the country. We’ll learn so much about
the rapidly changing political situation, visit Yemin Orde (which we have been
supporting during its rebuilding efforts after the terrible fire it suffered) and visit with
the youth there. We plan to go to Petra in Jordan as well. We will learn with each

other and with selected teachers who will have so much to share with us, celebrate Purim and Shabbat
in
Jerusalem, visit a kibbutz of the Progressive movement in the Negev, and so many other things. And
there will be free time to visit with family and friends. The itinerary should be ready soon, and by April
we will have the airline prices available.
I promise you a walk through history and a vivid view of the present. The Bible will come alive in your
hands – we shall study Kabbala in Safed, see the recently unearthed Davidic sites in Jerusalem, even
witness the major migration of the birds as they cross Israel, migrating from Africa to Europe.
Jewishness will come alive for you in what will be a unique tour of the land and a precious visit with our
People. We will have a sunset service on Mt. Neboh, standing where Moses stood to look at the
Promised Land.
We need to know if you are interested in order to proceed with our planning. Please call the JCOH
office and let us know if you are interested. Don’t wait. Call us now.
I so look forward to showing you the Israel I love and introducing you to the people who give us so
much hope for the future. Join with me in an extraordinary voyage to the past, present and soon-to-be
future.

Stein at cantor@jcoh.org. Together, along with the churches on the East End, we can help our homeless.

the bags are distributed to the local food pantries. We also need

Responses to the distribution of the Yard Sale funds this year:
We appreciate your recent donation and know you gave because of the hard work of your congregation and your heart to serve
this community. We have more than double last year’s number of families served. We will be using this donation to purchase food
to keep the doors open so we continue to reach out to those in need.
—Dorothy Cronley, Director, Living Water Food Pantry, Wainscott
On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and children of the Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreation Center, we would like to
thank you for your generous donation. We continue to provide the community with day care, after-school programs and a place
where neighborhood youth can participate in recreational, artistic and educational activities.
—Paul Jeffers, President and Bonnie Cannon, Executive Director, The Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreation Center
We are writing this to thank you again for your generous contribution to support Eastern Farm Workers Association’s emergency
and supplemental food benefit. Please know that your support ensures that any day of the week, 365 days a year, if someone is in
need of food they can come to EFWA for emergency food. Your partnership over the years has made it possible for us to grow our
food benefits in the face of the increasing needs as the loss of jobs continues to devastate our economy.
—Joel Biddle, Operations Manager and Clifford Cody, Executive Director, Eastern Farm Workers Association
Your gift to our Food Pantry is outstanding and greatly appreciated. It is because of generous people like you we are able to continue feeding the needy in our community.
—Fran Ecker, Montauk Food Pantry
Thank you for your thoughtful gift to the Springs Food Pantry. In these difficult times, the food pantry has become important to many
more people in our community. It is only because of the generosity of people like you that we have been able to provide food to
the large number in our community seeking such assistance.
—Dru Raley, Coordinator and Chris Ratliff, Treasurer, Springs Community Food Pantry
We, the clients, volunteers, staff and Board of Directors do heartily thank you for your very generous donation to East Hampton
Meals on Wheels. We understand the tremendous effort and hard work required to collect and sell the items at your yard sale.
—Cynthia P. Kaback, President, East Hampton Meals on Wheels
On behalf of the Board of Directors, the staff and the children of Project MOST, we send you our gratitude and appreciation for
your very generous donation. It is because of people like you that Project MOST is able to continue its much needed mission of
helping children and parents access and afford essential after school programs so that our children continue learning and are in a
safe place while many parents are at work from 3PM-6PM.
—Thomas Bryden, Executive Director and Cindy Golden-Allentuck, Board President, Project MOST
On behalf of the students, staff and Board of Education of Springs School, we thank you for your generous donation to our food
cart and to the Seedlings greenhouse. We strongly believe that by parents, school and community working together, we will make
all the difference in the world. It is clear through your charitable activities that the people of the Jewish Center of the Hamptons care
about the children and families of our community.
—Michael Hartner, Superintendent and Eric M. Casale, President, Springs Public School
The East Hampton Food Pantry is genuinely grateful for the anonymous donation of Goya Food products from one of your congregants. The pantry served over 45,000 individuals in 2010. One day we hope to end hunger in our community and with your help
we know we are getting closer to our dream.

Camp Karole
Serving the community for over 30 years
We are very excited about our 2011 Camp Karole season. I would like to welcome back Camp Director
Marisa Katz, who has been director of the camp for the past 12 years. I would also like to welcome Josh
Brussell and Frank Sokolowski as our new camp supervisors. They are both teachers in the East
Hampton School District with much camp and community experience.
This summer we will be implementing a few new programs and restructuring some of the existing
programs. To accommodate special interests of our campers, we will offer a hiking/nature program and
a cooking program. These two new programs will be one-week sessions offered in July and August—
there will be separate fees and registration for these programs. Please sign up as soon as possible; the
number of campers in each program will be limited. We will also be offering an After-Camp Care program that will run from 2:30-5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Friday. Please call the Jewish Center at 631-324-9858 to get more information regarding these programs.
The camp season will begin June 27th and end August 19th. If you enroll your child/grandchild before
March 15th, there is a 5% discount. If you're a member of the JCOH, there will be an additional 10%
discount.
I am looking forward to a very busy and active summer. Camp Karole continues to have the finest
reputation on the East End and we are determined to make it even better.
