Supplies/Software
At a minimum, students should have access to MS Office 2010 and high
broadband internet. Students may be required to download additional, freeof-charge, software or add-ons for this course.

Course Description
This course introduces basic concepts of business analytics. Topics include
an overview of data and text mining, forecasting and optimization
techniques, data visualization, data security, and ethics. Upon completion,
students should be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of analytics
for decision-making in business.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon

Describe basic concepts in data mining.
Recognize forecasting techniques.
Demonstrate data visualization techniques.
Explain data security concepts.
Discuss ethics within the field of business analytics.

Grades for this course will be a weighted average of the following:






40% on Unit Tests
30% on Final Exam
10% on Discussion
10% on Quizzes
10% on Assignments
Subject to adjustment per attendance policy (see below)
A = 90-100 B = 80-89 C = 70-79 D = 60-69 F = 59 or less

Attendance Policy
It is the student’s responsibility to abide by the Wake Tech Attendance Policy

Wake Technical Community College has an attendance requirement of 90%.
The policy states “Students are expected to be in attendance at least 90% of
all scheduled class hours. If the student misses more than 10% of the
scheduled classes, it is the instructor’s option to withdraw the student from
the class OR drop the student one grade level (for example, an average of
an “A” would become a “B”.
As importantly, class participation is a significant factor in the grade you will
earn in this class. If you are not here, you cannot participate. If your
work schedule will keep you out of this class or make you late on a regular
basis you should consider taking an online version of this course or taking it
another time.
