Some Key Information for New Students

1.

Student Handbook : All students should be familiar with our Wake Tech Student Handbook . The handbook includes important information including school policies, calendars and other critical information for students.

2.

Locating your Advisor and contact information : Students can find their advisor and their contact information by logging in to Webadvisor . Click on “current curriculum student”, then select “my profile” for advisor contact information. Students in the Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, and Associate of General Education degrees will see “CUT Advising” listed as their advisor. These students may see any college transfer advisor at the Main, Northern Wake, or

Spring registration time-frame : Registration for Spring semester begins in late October for returning students, the exact date depends on your program of study. Registration dates are available on our Calendars website . You are encouraged to meet with your advisor (if you have advising questions) early on to avoid long lines.

My.waketech.edu

: All students should set up and regularly check their my.waketech.edu e-mail account. You can set up your account at http://login.live.com/ and get assistance setting up your account if necessary by calling our helpdesk at 919-866-7000. Your my.waketech.edu email account is the college’s way of communicating with students. All correspondence

(including school closings, when to register, important dates and events) are sent to student’s my.waketech.edu e-mail account.

Individualized Learning Center - If you would like help with reading, writing, math or computers you can visit our ILC (Individualized Learning Center). The ILC offers free help in reading, writing, math, computers, study skills, and many other areas. ILC services are available at each campus.

Feeling overwhelmed, or having a hard time keeping up with assignments : You may want to speak to our Counseling Department. Refer to http://counseling.waketech.edu/ for listings of helpful workshops, contact information and other details.

8.

Withdrawal : After the 10% point of a semester (usually the first two weeks, see our academic calendar for exact dates) students must officially withdraw from classes and are not eligible for a refund. Students in a seated class should get a withdrawal form from the Registrar (or

download at http://www.waketech.edu/student-services/registration-student-records/forms ), have their instructor sign, and return to Registrar’s Office to withdraw from a class. Online students can e-mail their instructor and request a withdrawal from their course(s). Students are encouraged to keep copy of the e-mail withdrawal request as proof that they requested a withdrawal. The deadline to withdraw from a Fall semester course with a grade of W, which does not affect your grade point average, is October 26.

Issues/Complaints about a particular course : Students should first speak with their instructor if they have any issues with a course. If the instructor is not able to satisfactorily address your issue, please contact the appropriate Department Head.
