Laura Passfield Nickname: Laursie Age: 16 years old Playing position: Pitcher, 1st base, outfield First softball club: Cronulla RSL Local Association: Sutherland Shire Softball High School: Caringbah High Career/Study Aspirations: To study veterinary science Laura’s playing career so far includes: • • • • • Being selected in the NSW U17s for the first time in 2012, then again in 2013 and 2014. Laura was the Vice captain in 2014 and the team were national champions in 2012 and 2014. Laura pitched in the 2014 final, which they won 4-0. In 2013 Laura was selected in the U17s Australian squad which included a total of 30 players. From there she was chosen for the Aussie Sparks softball team which toured America in July of 2013. Laura was also part of the 2013 NSW school girls softball team Selected in the U19s Australian Squad Who does Laura look up to and why? Stacey McManus because she is an outstanding player, one of the strongest in our country and one of the most humble too. Laura’s favourite sporting person and why? Serena Williams because of her toughness and determination to be the best she can be. What does Laura love about softball? The team aspect of the game, that although there are many individual aspects, everything each player must do is about the team. She also loves the challenge and difficulty of each and every part of the game. What was Laura’s superstition / ritual during nationals? Eating 6 hash browns and a cappuccino at breakfast! (She did it on the first day and played well so did it every other morning of the tournament) What motivates Laura? She is motivated by how many people have put time into her softball and sacrificed parts of their lives to help her succeed. What 3 things can’t she live without? Sport, chicken and her mobile phone.
