Have you applied to NOVA? If yes, please proceed to #2. If no, go to
http://apply.vccs.edu and complete the admission application. Please make sure to select
credit and Northern Virginia Community College.

Apply for Financial Aid – If yes, please proceed to #3. If no, Complete the FREE
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at https://fafsa.ed.gov/. The FAFSA becomes
available January 1 for the following academic year. The FAFSA should be completed at
least four weeks prior to the tuition payment deadline. Use the online tutorial to help you
complete the form.

Attend a FAF$A Saturday here on campus

Have you taken the placement tests? If yes, please continue to #4. If no, you must
complete the English and Math placement tests.

 Placement Test Prep Information
a. SAT /ACT scores may allow you to be exempt from the placement assessment:
i. SAT Critical Reading and a Writing Score of a 500 or higher or ACT English and Writing
score of at least 21 dated within the last two years
ii. SAT Math Score 520 or ACT score of at least 22, dated within the last two years, the
student may register for MTH 115, 126, 150, 151, 152, 157 or 181 without taking the VPT.
** You may need to take the Math placement test, depending on your major**
4) If you have completed steps 1-3, your next step is to sign up for a Student Orientation.
At Student Orientation you will:





Receive interpretation of Placement Test scores
Develop an academic goal
Meet with a first-year advisor
Create your class schedule and register for courses
Learn about payment options and Financial Aid
