Dr. Henry Shannon
| President’s Welcome
Welcome to another exciting season of Chaffey College football. We opened the season with back-to-back wins at home against
Orange Coast and Moorpark. Now, Coach Hadaway and his team are looking to dominate the National Central Conference,
taking on local rivals Mt SAC, Riverside, and Citrus, as well as El Camino, LA Harbor, and Long Beach. These games match up
some of the finest community college athletes in the state. The Panthers’ passion for their sport embodies the Chaffey College
spirit and 132 year tradition of excellence the college is known for.
This fall, the college welcomed back Cross Country to our intercollegiate athletic lineup. Coach Lander has assembled a crew of
talented runners that are already placing at meets throughout the southland. Along with our nationally ranked soccer, water polo,
and volleyball teams – the Panthers are the team to watch this fall. Please join me and the Governing Board as we cheer our
athletes on to another successful season. GO PANTHERS!
Dr. Cory Schwartz
| Dean’s Welcome
I’m pleased to welcome you to another season of Panther Athletics. Each fall, we invite fans to cheer on our Panthers on the
soccer field, swimming pool, volleyball court and gridiron. This fall, we’re excited to also be cheering for Panther Cross Country
as they run on the streets, hills, and canyons of Southern California. Panther athletes represent 14 intercollegiate teams and are
competitive in both the classroom and on the field.
This season marks Coach Rob Hadaway’s third season at the helm of Panther Football. Coach Hadaway is a community college
alumnus himself, and brings a wealth of knowledge as a former student-athlete, coach, and tenured professor that our young
athletes have come to depend on and respect. His group of talented players, coupled with a world-class assistant coaching staff,
embodies the PANTHER PRIDE spirit Chaffey College is known for. I expect to see stellar performances from both our
returning sophomores who led the league last season, as well as the freshman class getting their collegiate start on our field.
This last spring the school of Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Athletics honored over 100 scholar-athletes; those students who
achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the previous terms. I am especially proud of their academic accomplishments and their ability
to balance their schoolwork with both their team and personal commitments. These students truly exemplify what makes Chaffey
College a world-class institution. This fall, I invite you to be a part of this exciting season and to come out and support our
teams. Whether it’s football, soccer, volleyball, water polo, cross country, basketball, swim, baseball, or softball, we are proud of
our student-athlete’s accomplishments in the classroom and in competition.
Jeff Klein
| Athletic Director’s Welcome
Football season is an exciting time on college campuses nationwide. In the shadow of the foothills, with a breathtaking view of
the valley, the enthusiastic cheering from the students, faculty, staff, alumni, family, friends, and community members welcome
the Panthers onto Grigsby Field for each home game. This season the team welcomes Orange Coast, Moorpark, Mt SAC, Citrus
and LA Harbor to our home stadium and travels both throughout southern California and as far away as the central region to take
on Allan Hancock College.
Last year, two standout players transferred to four-year universities are representing their Chaffey roots on NCAA fields. Dimitri
Morales is making a name for himself at Upper Iowa University and Toure Boyd joined the Gamecocks at the University of South
Carolina. Both young men were instrumental in the 2013 and 2014 seasons. I am confident that they will both reach their
academic and athletic goals.
This season we will also welcome the start of Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Women’s Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Water Polo,
and Men’s and Women’s Cross Country. We are extremely proud of all of our sports and student-athletes at Chaffey College.

Head Football Coach
2015 Season Outlook
In its first season returning to the Upper Division, the Panthers finished
the season with a successful second place finish, a 6-5 record (4-2 in
conference), and a second consecutive Bowl game.
Last season, the Panthers faced three different number one teams in
the state rankings, and the conference doesn’t look to be weakening
anytime soon. Four of the seven teams are ranked in the State and
three in the National polls. The Panthers are going to have to bring their
best game week in and week out in order to compete for a conference
crown and a berth in the State playoffs.
Coach Hadaway and the hard working coaching staff have once again
acquired a strong recruiting class filled with local talent, and a handful
coming from out of state. Along with these recruits, Chaffey welcomes
back 22 returning players, 9 of whom were All Conference selections in
the last two seasons, and several key transfers that should complement
and push the returning Panthers for playing time.

Strength and
Conditioning
| Phil Roberts
Chaffey College is one of two
community colleges that
employs a faculty member
particularly for the purpose of
working with athletes. Phil
Roberts trains with all of the
college’s athletes and the general student population with
weight training and conditioning. He is knowledgeable in all
sports education and addresses athletes’ needs specific to
their sport. In 2009, Roberts was granted tenure by the
college. Phil brings to Chaffey more than seven years of
experience and excellent educational training. He has a
Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Kansas State
University and a Masters of Science degree in physical
education from Northwest Missouri State University. He
also holds Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist and
USA Weight Lifting certifications.
Athletic
Training
| Carey Balderrama
The college’s athletic training
staff plays an integral role in the
success of our athletic programs.
The head trainer provides
optimal care to our studentathletes through preventative
measures, rehabilitation, injury/illness management,
emergency and non-emergency attention, and education.
Individual support and attention is given to each athlete
specific to their sport, needs, and goals.

Academic Commitment
Academics
We are committed to academics at Chaffey College. Our
students are provided a variety of academic and learning
resources through the college’s student services departments.
Students have the benefits of services such as the transfer
center, success centers, and academic assistance. Our studentathletes understand that it is important to excel in academics.
Chaffey College provides individualized assistance for each
student.
Chaffey College instruction is divided into six schools:
Business and Applied Technology, Chino Campus, Language
Arts, Health Sciences, Mathematics and Science, Social and
Behavioral Sciences, Visual and Performing Arts, and
Kinesiology, Nutrition & Athletics. Chaffey College is fully
accredited, and our academic and vocational programs are
recognized both locally and nationally.
Our faculty excel in teaching, which distinguishes Chaffey
College from other institutions. This exceptional team consists
of experts in all disciplines who are scholars and teachers of
tremendous talent and ability. Each is a recognized scholar in
his or her chosen field.
Academic Counseling
The college’s athletic department is one of the finest in the
state. This success can be attributed to many factors; great
faculty, coaches, academic counseling, and our studentathletes. We understand that academics come first and should
be the most important part in any student’s life at Chaffey.
That is why the athletic program includes an athletic
counselor.
Jeff Moser and other staff members work with student-athletes
to provide guidance and support as they progress through their
academic careers. Learning specialists and tutors lend strong
support by working with our athletes on their learning styles
and strategies, as well as other learning programs.
More than 85% of our athletes are recruited from the district
that our college serves. The 2014-15 school year was
extremely successful for the Chaffey athletic programs.
Through the hard work and dedication of our coaches, staff,
and counselor, these athletes are demonstrating academic
success. Last year, numerous athletes transferred to a college
or university, many of which received scholarships.

Over 130 Years
of Chaffey
Football
History
Years later Chaffey’s football team would travel across the
Pacific Ocean by ship to play Kamehameha College in
Hawai’I (now Honolulu Community College). In an agreement
originally made in 1929 between the two schools, the
Hawaiian team would first travel to California to compete and
then Chaffey would make the journey the following year.
Injuries and sickness caused the 1929 game to be cancelled but
in late-December 1930 Chaffey’s football team made the 2000
mile voyage based on the original arrangement. Chaffey would
play and win 2 games in Hawai’i (one against a local high
school to benefit the Shriner’s Hospital), tour the area and
participate in cultural activities before returning to the
mainland. This game would become the precursor to the
annual Christmas-time Aloha Bowl. The following year as
promised, the Hawaiian team traveled to Ontario to play
Chaffey on the newly constructed Graber Field (on the
Chaffey High School College campus) named for local
businessman and Chaffey Trustee, Clifford Graber.
In 1947, Chaffey would again participate in a bowl game.
After back-to-back conference championships, that December
the Panthers (as they were now known) were invited to
participate in the 2nd Junior Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
Representing the west, Chaffey would face the Cameron
Aggies of Lawton, OK, a team that was ranked first in the US.
Cheered on by 55,000 fans including a major contingent from
Fontana’s Kaiser Steel, the Panthers proved they were not just
the “Best in the West” but National Champions as well,
defeating the Aggies 39-26.
Football has been a part of Chaffey College since the
beginning days of the college. Early clubs and teams were
formed as early as 1892 with football commentary appearing
regularly in the Chaffey Argus (the campus newspaper of the
time) and the Ontario Record. Football back then was much
different than the Panther team that will take the field today.
Players did not wear pads or helmets and it was not unusual
for several players to be badly injured or even killed in the
course of a game. Football was not a game of strategy but one
of brute force and coaches were rare, instead the team captain
was responsible for planning and conditioning.
In 1893, three Southern California colleges joined together to
create the first area football conference. Throop (which later
became CalTech), USC and Chaffey would be the first
participating schools with non-league games played against
Los Angeles High School and San Bernardino High School.
It was the culmination of this first season that brought Chaffey
its first historical football event. On December 11, 1893, a
team from USC traveled by train to North Ontario to compete
against Chaffey on the football field of the original 4th street
campus. Before a crowd of families, friends and members of
the local farming community, Chaffey defeated USC to win
the first championship of intercollegiate football in Southern
California, 32-6.
20
In the 16 years Carl Beach held the Head Coach position, he
led the Panthers to three conference championships and 10
bowl games including the 1996 Southern California Bowl,
Chaffey’s first bowl appearance since 1947. Now we usher in
a new generation of leadership, welcoming Head Coach Rob
Hadaway as our new Head Coach. Football has been an
integral part of campus life at Chaffey since the college’s
founding 132 years ago. Days of playing on the lawn in
Ontario, or sharing a field with Chaffey High are long since
gone. The Panthers now enjoy their own home – welcoming
you to Grigsby Field, named for the Bill & Paula Grigsby
family who generously donated to the athletic program for
many years.
Welcome to the 2015 season of Panther Football.
