RIDE FOREVER Keep your people safe on the road to work Why is ACC talking to employers about motorcycle safety? Obviously every employer has a responsibility to try and look after the wellbeing of their people. And chances are many of your staff ride to work on a motorcycle or scooter, so it’s in everyone’s interests to keep them safe on the road to work and back every day. After-all, statistically speaking - 1 in every 20 of your employees who ride a motorcycle will be injured in a crash this year. And if they have to take time off work to recover, they may be off the job for a long time. The average ACC motorcycle injury claim for weekly compensation is 196 days – that’s an average of over 6 months off work! That’s why ACC is working with employers to help their people get to work (and home again) in one piece. We don’t want them to stop riding, we just want them to be safe while they’re at it. What can you do to help keep your people safe on motorcycles? The most effective way to keep motorcyclists safe is to take them out on their bike and teach them the skills they need to handle any hazard that the road could throw at them. To do that, ACC developed the Ride Forever motorcycle training programme which is designed to improve the riding skills of any bike rider, regardless of their level of skill or experience. For employers, we have developed simple resource packs you can use to promote Ride Forever in the workplace as a straight-forward, ‘ready to go’ health and safety initiative. The packs provide posters and flyers you can put up in workplaces and staff areas, and we can also provide information you could send out in staff email announcements or insert into a staff newsletter.
