Your energy and devotion to providing marvelous opportunities is deeply appreciated. A special thank you to “first timers,” and to those who are willing to continue offering wonderful events we look forward to each year. The success of Dining for Dollar$ is a result of your creative entertaining ideas and gracious hospitality. Thank you to the incredibly talented Abby Koch, (a valued member of our church staff) for her many hours spent creating and publishing the bidding booklet “in-house” which saves us a lot of money. Where does she find all of those pictures?! To all of the volunteers who helped at the Dining for Dollar$ table, and who will be helping during the three weeks of bidding; thanks for showing up and lending a hand! To Dave Hunt, a big thank you for serving as our Excel Guru and special consultant. We couldn’t have done it without your knowledge and guidance. Thank you Peggy and John Holl for creating the bidding tables and signs for the auction, which make the whole auction process flow smoothly. And a very special thanks to all who bid generously on events. You get to have fun and the Church receives needed revenues. —Marla English and Robie Evans, Dining for Dollar$ Co-Chairs Committee Members: Leland Beck, Ray Evans, Lisa and Bob Hartman, Peggy and John Holl, Dave Hunt, Maggie Marshall, Sylvia Ollinger, and Sali Weiss page 8 Auctions are Sundays, May 5, May 12, and May 19 Welcome to Dining for Dollar$ 2013 Items in this booklet are segregated by category to make it easier for you to decide which ones you want to bid on. Carefully review and select the events/services you are most interested in. After each service on May 5, May 12, and May 19, come to the Lower Patio and Bard Hall and enter your bids on the bid rosters. Feel free to buy places at events as gifts for your friends and family, as well as for yourself. Bids go to the highest bidder. Each bidding category has only the number of spaces available for the event. The next highest bidder may outbid the last bidder in a category. For example, if six people bid $30.00 on an event intended for six people and the seventh person bids $40.00, the last person in the $30.00 category loses the bid. Buy It Now: The “Buy it Now” (maximum bid) guarantees you seats at the event. When the “Buy it Now” event category is full the bidding for that event ends. Family Events: Additional details/instructions will be included on the bidding roster for those events where a family can bid as a family, not as individuals. If you want two or more spaces for an event, you may use the same bidding number, even if you decide later to pay separately. For example, if you and a friend or you and a spouse want to attend the same event you may write your bid number on two separate lines on the bid sheet, one per each person attending. Be sure to monitor your bids up through 1:30 p.m. on May 19, because, in the case of some popular events, you might be outbid! Winners: Within two weeks after the bidding closes, all bidders will receive a letter informing them of what they have won. Exception, for any events taking place in June you will be notified by May 31. Payment Schedule: Single Payment: By July 1, 2013 or Two Payments: ½ of bid due by July 1 2013; final payment due by December 1, 2013. Payment by check (to First UU Church). Include “D4$” and your Bidding Number to assure credit for your payment. We hope that by spreading out the payment, you will be able to bid on and enjoy more events. No refunds! If you win a bid, but can’t attend the event, please contact the host, then donate your spot to a friend or family member. You may also call the Church Office and ask that Suzette Southfox, Director of Membership and Development, donate your spot to a New Church Member. Money will not be refunded. All proceeds go to the Church and portions that exceed the fair market value of the event are tax deductible. Consult your tax advisor as needed. If you have any questions, please contact Dave Hunt at 858-945-4825 or uusancal@san,rr.com. page 9 Dining for Dollar$ Auction Book Fine or Exotic Dining Starting Bid : $ 30 Buy It Now : $ 100 #101 An Indian Feast Host(s): Sue Marberry Chicken curry and a variety of vegetarian dishes, including all kinds of flavors in dals and chutneys. This is a process of creating unique collaged cards from your found and magazine images for the primary purpose of self-exploration, self-acceptance, and soul-tending. I have been exploring the SoulCollage® process for about three years and recently completed the training to become a facilitator. For me, the process has been a meaningful journey into my creative soul. This process is simple, fun, and artistic; yet, no previous art experience is necessary to have a perfectly wonderful day and create personal and amazing art. Anyone able to manage scissors and glue can create beautiful cards and enjoy sharing them with others. This day will include a brief outline of the process, an opportunity to create one or more cards from magazine images or personal art that you copy and bring. I will provide all art materials needed, but encourage you to start saving magazine images that are meaningful to you. Our day will conclude as we join as a group and intuitively let the cards voice their messages to our inner muses and willing souls. I will be in touch with the winning bidders to provide examples and answer any questions before we meet at my home on September 7th. I will provide drinks and cookies and ask that you bring your own bag lunch.
