Nominated in the ’Kevin Thorpe Memorial Award, Best song category’ of the

Formed in 2009 by singer/guitarist and songwriter, Frankie Williams, the Grey
Goose Blues Band are eclectic and uncompromisingly original in their approach to
writing and performing the blues.
The band are influenced by the UK blues scene of the 60’s and 70’s. They also take
influences from other British movements that have shaped their musical personalities
such as Northern Soul, Punk, Ska and the ‘New Wave’ of the late 70’s. Ultimately
though, their sound is influenced most by the pantheon of American electric Rhythm
and Blues greats from across the ages. Artists such as T Bone Walker, Big Joe
Turner, Johnny Otis, Bo Didley on to Robert Cray and Gary Clarke Jr. Then of
course there’s the massive influences of BB and Albert King and the great Muddy
Waters.

should be played with
passion and feeling and they have some great songs”

Press release
The Grey Goose Blues Band release their new album ‘Hunted’ February 2014
Title track ‘The Hunter’, Nominated in the ’Kevin Thorpe Memorial Award, Best
song category of the British Blues Awards 2013’ for the title track of their new
album ‘The Hunter’.
‘Hunted’
This is a modern British Rhythm and Blues album from the emerging ‘Grey Goose
Blues Band’. Based in the British Midlands the GGBB are eclectic and
uncompromisingly original in their approach to writing and performing the blues.
The album has 11 songs which present a variety of classic blues rhythms. There’s
shuffles, funky grooves and plenty of swing. The album is full of variations on blues
formats and lyrical ideas born of the blues but characteristically British in content. It
is idiosynchratic yet catchy, esoteric yet accesible.
All the songs on the album are written and arranged by the band. Frankie Williams,
singer/guitarist with the band writes the lyrics. “For me it’s about taking blues themes
and putting them in a context that makes sense to me, in the UK today. The blues
has come to embrace anyone who invites it in. I opened my door to the blues as a
teenager and I have found it a great form through which to express myself”.
The majority of the album was produced by the band themselves and recorded in the
community in which they live and rehearse. Engineered by Owen Davies at ‘Loud
Noises Production Recording Studio’ inside the JJM Recording complex in Walsall. A
simple approach to production has ensured the songs are clear and direct, the hook
lines are memorable and the mix is punchy.
‘Hunted’ is a product of the new British Blues scene relevant to blues fans in 2014.
The album is currently available by request through the bands website
www.thegreygoose.webs.com and will soon be available for download through
iTunes and other online outlets.
