What kind of sniffer are you?
How does smell trigger
memories?
Tune in to ‘The Sweet Smell
of Science’ and other media
stories from PBS and KQED
to inspire learning.
Take a walk through the SF
Botanical Gardens with a
guest naturalist and learn
about the smells in our
natural world.
Are insects attracted to
certain fragrances? Which
parts of the flower are more
fragrant? Let our nose guide
our discoveries.
Use a simple mapping tool to
embed smell information &
photos.
Learn to create a smell map
and identify the smelliest and
most fragrant parts of your
schoolyard!

How can listening to
soundscapes help us
better understand our
ecosystem?
Join KQED Education
and a guest field naturalist
for an acoustical
exploration. Discover the
sounds of the natural
world, gather audio, and

Listen to media stories from
KQED and NPR to learn more
about the powerful world of
sound.
Learn to use a recording device
to capture sounds and use as
data for a sound investigation.
Take a sonic walk
outdoors with a guest field
naturalist.
Use a simple mapping tool
to embed recorded audio
files and/or photos.
Record the sounds and
learn about the acoustical
environment.
By creating a sound map,
students develop a sense of
place and can hear the
sounds of a location.
