AMA-MSS promotes the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health by empowering future physicians to stay abreast of current topics, policies, and practices. AMSA is national student governed organization representing the concerns of physiciansin-training who are committed to improving medical training and access to high quality health care. Our local chapter seeks to bring you resources such as guest speakers on important healthcare issues, leadership opportunities in committees, networking at residency fairs, presentations on medical resource companies, and more. Aka Women in Medicine (WIM), which serves to advance female professionals by mentoring the next generation of women entering medicine and by seeking the guidance of women who have come before us. With the goal of uniting to combat inequalities, WIM will sponsor events that acknowledge the particular obstacles women face as both medical professionals and patients. The vision of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine is to champion the health, well-being and safety of athletes and physically active people. Our mission is to provide: 1. An educational forum for physicians and healthcare professionals to address the quality of health care for individuals in competitive, recreational, occupational and industrial settings. 2. Leadership to establish and promote fitness and exercise guidelines, and to guide health care policy relating to wellness, physical activities and sporting events. 3. A collegial environment in which physicians and other healthcare professionals can expand their content knowledge and enhance their clinical skills in primary care sports medicine. We are students dedicated to addressing health concerns affecting the APIA community, networking with all health professionals, and promoting a culture of understanding at TUN. CMDA provides a positive outlet for Christian students in medical and dental school. We discuss dermatology in practice, and of course, the expectations and requirements for pursuing a career in dermatology. We are looking forward to guest speakers, our annual 5K Skin Cancer Awareness Fun Run, and clinics on dermatological topics. inTUN inTUN began in 2010 to bring together students who love to sing, and to bring music to the halls of TUN. The group now performs regularly at school events and other areas in the community. LDSSA The group meets together weekly for an institute class in order to receive instruction and study from a collection of scriptures known to Mormons as the standard works. MSFC MSFC's events focus on advocating for and improving women's access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare. Our events also tend to be very educational focused, and fill in reproductive health gaps in Touro's curriculum like specific lectures on abortion techniques and what it is like to be an abortion provider. 4 NPSIG NPSIG is interested in topics related to Neurology and Psychiatry. We plan to participate in the Alzheimer's Walk, attend conferences, bring in guest speakers, provide tours of places of interest, and provide community service and networking opportunities. OIG OIG focuses on providing national conference opportunities, professional networking, and monthly service activities through Nevada's cancer foundations. This semester's biggest events are the Movember Mustache Contest, Run for Life, and Sickle Cell Walk. OMSGA This is the Student Government organization for the DO program. Its parent, COSGP, serves as the official national representative voting voice of osteopathic medical students. PATH Pathology Interest Group hosts the biannual blood drive with the American Red Cross and members are able to shadow autopsies with Dr. Simms in the spring. PCCAII Peds SAAO SAMSA SAOG SOIMA SOMA PCCAII strives to volunteer and work with pulmonary specialists and allergy and immunologists within our community and is the first organization in partnership with the American Lung Association to work with children suffering with asthma via the Open Airways for Schools program. So.. what do we do? We volunteer… with kids! Our main volunteer activities include Shadetree, Mini Med School, and PEDS OMM Clinic. In partnership with the Pediatrics Interest Group, the SAAO participates in the Peds OMM Clinic at school and helps put on Mini Med School–two great opportunities to flex and practice the skills and knowledge taught at school for a good cause. The South Asian Medical Students Association is open to everyone. The organization volunteers throughout the year, and hosts cultural events to celebrate all of the unique South Asian cultures. SAOG is committed to improving the healthcare of women, serving the community through charity events and volunteering, and providing members the opportunity to interact with local OB/GYN professionals. Some of the exciting events to look forward to? The Breast Cancer Bowl-o-Thon and a movie night! SOIMA members can participate in the Friends of the Desert program, a monthly volunteer opportunity to take blood pressure, vital signs, blood glucose, and patient medical histories. We also host speakers from different specialties within Internal medicine, and active members have the opportunity to attend the Annual Internal medicine conference held in Orlando, Florida. As an active SOMA member, you will nurture & strengthen your leadership skills, be politically active, take part in numerous volunteer opportunities, build life-long bonds with colleagues from across the U.S., & leave your mark on the Osteopathic profession! 5 SOSA SOSA aims to establish a strong foundation for its members at Touro University Nevada, provide community outreach opportunities, and educate students about the surgical profession. Sigma Sigma Phi is an Honorary Osteopathic Service Fraternity. SSP TUGLMAA SNMA NOMA TuGLMAA serves as a social, political, and service function within the LGBT community of Southern Nevada. Our events range from marching in the annual gay pride parade and lobbying legislatures to drag queen bingo and movie nights. Student National Medical Association (SNMA) is committed to supporting current and future underrepresented minority medical students, addressing the needs of underserved communities, and increasing the number of clinically excellent, culturally competent and socially conscious physicians. SNMA chapters based at allopathic and osteopathic medical schools throughout the nation, and some colleges, implement our programs and activities locally. SNMA programs are designed to serve the health needs of underserved communities and communities of color. In addition, SNMA is dedicated both to ensuring that medical education and services are culturally sensitive to the needs of diverse populations and to increasing the number of African-American, Latino, and other students of color entering and completing medical school. NOMA allows students to be part of the State Osteopathic Association. NOMAs mission is to promote quality patient care through excellence in osteopathic education. NOMA encourages active participation in legislative process to advocate for patients and the profession, and promotes opportunities for fellowship.
