REFLECTIONS
Holy Spirit, Light Divine
SELECTED VERSES FROM PROVERBS 1 & 2 (ESV)
Other stories are always looking for ways to humanize God and deify us, but God’s
story exalts Him and brings appropriate humility to us as His creatures. All wisdom
starts here. If you miss it, you are on the wrong path and without hope.
Edward Welch
Holy Spirit, Light divine; shine upon this heart of mine
Chase the shades of night away; turn my darkness into day
Holy Spirit come, Holy Spirit come
1 2 To know wisdom and instruction,
to understand words of insight,
3
to receive instruction in wise dealing,
in righteousness, justice, and equity;
4
to give prudence to the simple,
knowledge and discretion to the youth—
5
Let the wise hear and increase in learning,
and the one who understands obtain guidance,
7
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction.
20
Wisdom cries aloud in the street,
in the markets she raises her voice;
21
at the head of the noisy streets she cries out;
at the entrance of the city gates she speaks:
22
“How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple?
How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing
and fools hate knowledge?
33
but whoever listens to me will dwell secure
and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.
To search for wisdom apart from Christ means not simply foolhardiness but utter
insanity.
John Calvin
Having wisdom does not mean that you understand all of God’s ways; it means that
you respond to life God’s way. The better you know the Bible, the wiser you will
[become].

FROM PSALM 100
Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness;
come before Him with joyful singing.
Know that the Lord Himself is God; it is He who has made us, and
not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise. Give
thanks to Him; bless His name. For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting, and His faithfulness to all generations.
PRAYER OF ADORATION
OPENING SONGS OF PRAISE: Prepare The Way, O Zion
Prepare the way, O Zion
Your Christ is drawing near
Let every hill and valley
A level way appear
Greet One who comes in glory
Foretold in sacred story
Oh blest is Christ that came
In God’s most holy name
He brings God’s rule, O Zion
He comes from heaven above
His rule is peace and freedom
And justice, truth, and love
Lift high your praise resounding
For grace and joy abounding
Oh, blest is Christ that came
In God’s most holy name
I Stand Amazed
I stand amazed in the presence
Of Jesus the Nazarene,
And wonder how He could love me,
A sinner, condemned, unclean.
O, how marvelous! O, how wonderful!
And my song shall ever be:
O, how marvelous! O, how wonderful
Is my Savior’s love for me!
He took my sins and my sorrows;
He made them His very own;
He bore the burden to Calvary,
And suffered and died alone.
When with the ransomed in glory
His face I at last shall see,
’Twill be my joy through the ages
To sing of His love for me.
FERNANDO ORTEGA
Fling wide your gates, O Zion
Your Savior’s rule embrace
His tidings of salvation
Proclaim in every place
All lands will bow before Him
Their voices will adore Him
Oh blest is Christ that came
In God’s most holy name
O Holy Spirit, presence of God
Giver of comfort, power and love
I give you my heart, Light divine
Holy Spirit, Power divine; cleanse this guilty heart of mine
Long has sin without control, held dominion o’er my soul
Holy Spirit come, Holy Spirit come
Holy Spirit, all divine; dwell within this heart of mine
Cast down every idol throne; reign supreme and reign alone
Holy Spirit come, Holy Spirit come
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
SONGS OF ADORATION: Open My Lips
Open my lips
I will sing Your praise forever
Open my lips, O Lord
I will sing Your praise forever
A broken spirit and a contrite heart
These you will not despise
Open my lips
I will sing Your praise forever
Sing To The Lord A New Song (Psalm 96)
Sing to the Lord a new song,
Sing to the Lord, all the earth
For great is our God
Most worthy of praise
Let the whole earth sing
To the Name above all names
Sing to the Lord a new song,
Sing to the Lord, all the earth
For great is the Lord
Most worthy of praise

2 2 making your ear attentive to wisdom
and inclining your heart to understanding;
3
yes, if you call out for insight
and raise your voice for understanding,
4
if you seek it like silver
and search for it as for hidden treasures,
5
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
6
For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
9
Then you will understand righteousness and justice
and equity, every good path;
10
for wisdom will come into your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
11
discretion will watch over you,
understanding will guard you,
20
So you will walk in the way of the good
and keep to the paths of the righteous.
21
For the upright will inhabit the land,
and those with integrity will remain in it,

OUR OFFERING
At Grace Pasadena, we do not pass a collection plate; rather we use this time of reflection
to consider all that we have and all that God may be asking us to give. Please take this time
to reflect on what God may be asking of you with regard to your financial gifts, personal
time and even vocational calling. For our regular attendees and those wishing to help Grace
Pasadena financially, there is a box located near the main entrance under the cross in which
you may privately place your offering after the worship service concludes or during the time
of communion. You may also mail your offering to our address: 65 N. Raymond Ave., Suite
260, Pasadena, CA 91103.
Psalm 1 (New International Version/NIV)
Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2
but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
4
Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
5
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6
For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
COMMUNION
Guidelines: The sacrament of Communion is also called the Lord’s Supper or Eucharist.
It is the family meal of Christians. It is for all who are willing to forsake their sin and trust
in Jesus Christ for salvation. The invitation to take the bread and drink from the cup is
from Jesus Christ alone, not from this church or any minister. As such, to partake in this
sacrament there is only one requirement: you must be able to call yourself a Christian.
That is all, nothing more.
Gluten Free: For those of you wishing to partake in Communion with gluten free bread,
it will be available in the small dish as you come forward.
CLOSING HYMN: Take My Life And Let It Be
Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, for Thee
Take my moments and my days
Let them flow in ceaseless praise
Let them flow in ceaseless praise
Take my will and make it Thine
It shall be no longer mine
Take my heart, it is Thine own
It shall be Thy royal throne
It shall be Thy royal throne
Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee
Swift and beautiful for Thee
Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store
Take myself and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee
Ever, only, all for Thee
Take my voice and let me sing
Always, only, for my King
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee
Filled with messages from Thee
