Objectives
•
Explain the function and operation of the authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA)
protocol.
•
Describe the importance of AAA as it relates to authentication, authorization, and accounting
•
Explain server-based AAA
Scenario
Superior Health Care System Inc.
The transition team is responsible for developing and implementing a new authentication, authorization
and accounting (AAA) system to manage all networking devices. Your group has been asked to perform
the task as part of this initiative.
Tasks 3.1
•
Research the current protocols used to perform AAA services. Develop a table to compare and
contrast the advantage of each.
•
Research the different services on both Microsoft and UNIX/Linux platforms to perform AAA
services. Include the following information:
o
Name of the products
o
Cost
o
Recommended capacity (number of users)
o
Support for redundancy
Tasks 3.2
The audit will require us to strengthen our authentication process. Provide the following information
related to strengthening the authentication process.
•
Recommendations on implementing enhanced password requirements (this must be based on
industry or NSA recommendations)
•
List of all authentication features included in the 12.4T IOS for our Cisco routers
•
List of authentication methods supported by our 12.4T IOS Cisco routers
•
Research and compare & contrast between TACACS+ and Radius in reference to AAA.
