Re: Summer Work
Your summer study will be mostly from your Discovering French Rouge text, as a
review. Do NOT put this off until the end of the summer. Study and review a little each
week, as much as possible. You will be expected to use the vocabulary when writing and
reading. Be prepared for tests on verbs during the first two weeks when you first return to
school
Part I: Vocabulary
Review all the vocabulary from your sophomore year, as indicated on the handouts,
copied from the text.
Part II: Verbs
Study all the verbs that are conjugated in this packet*, that have been copied from the
text, in seven tenses (présent, impératif, passé composé, imparfait, futur, conditionnel,
subjonctif) as well as les participes present et passé. All together, this includes the three
regular conjugation pattern verbs (parler, finir, vendre), a reflexive pattern verb (se laver),
six spelling change pattern verbs (acheter, appeler, préférer, payer, commencer, and
manger), and 50 irregular verbs.

Part IV: Listening and speaking
Reading & listening comprehension:
Read the following very short stories, listening carefully to the pronunciation, and
listening several times to any parts you do not understand:
(1) “Chere Maman, Cher Papa”, (2) “Le Bon”, (3) “Le Cauchemar”, et (4) “La
Guillotine” at

Read up-to-date articles at http://www.geoado.com/
Please stay engaged in the active practice of your language skills. Try to do a little each
week over the summer. Listen to French music, try to read news articles and watch French
commercials, shows, movies, or short videos online! 

