Our senior students help you transition smoothly to high school life. They will visit you in class, help you feel comfortable in the school and introduce you to our many clubs and teams. Your mentor is your guide for the school year, giving you one-on-one peer counselling on any issue. “Makin’ It Happen” Youth Program - Two of our dedicated teachers created this supportive program to help our at-risk students build self-esteem, improve attendance and achieve their academic goals. We invite our students to meet with guest speakers and other students once a week from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Test Drive Potential Careers Experience a career now. Our extensive cooperative education placements opportunities include emergency services, firefighters and health care institutions. Gain valuable handson experience as a teacher’s assistant in a local child care or elementary school; or work in large marketing firms downtown as clerical and marketing assistants. Our trained guidance team will open a world of university options. From October through to February, we organize weekly visits by college and university representatives to answer all of your questions as you plan your future. In our Grade 11 leadership course, you will help plan athletic tournaments and assist with other physical education activities. In our very popular exercise course focusing on physiology, you help prepare students who are interested in studying physical education or life sciences at university. Social Science and Humanities - Understanding past societies helps us comprehend our future. Enroll in our ancient civilization, anthropology, sociology, politics, law, economics and world religions courses and put the present into perspective. History students compete in the annual Toronto history contest. Our law society club addresses legal and safety issues on behalf of all students. Participate in our annual safety audit; survey students to hear their views and make recommendations for change. Art and Photography - Enroll in our visual arts and photography programs and exhibit your work at school and in the community. Learn in our fully equipped dark room and spacious art rooms that will help your creativity explode. Our students are focused and serious about their futures. Over 80 per cent of our graduates are accepted into the college or university of choice, with almost one-half of those students earning university scholarships. One-third of our graduates are Ontario Scholars. Our students participate and excel each year in numerous provincial and national mathematics competitions, including Euclid, Pascal, Fermat, Cayley and the University of Waterloo. Past computer science students have achieved top honours at the Educational Computing Organization of Ontario (ECOO) competitions. We have eight computer labs, with 300 computers connected to the Internet. Imagine Students’ Success Imagine the best school in the world. We were one of only five schools in the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) where trained students interviewed adults to determine how the school system could be improved. The TDSB is reviewing those recommendations to make system-wide changes in the future.
