SUMMER SCHOOL ENROLLMENT DETAILS
ƒ
IMPACT is automatically enrolling any third, sixth, and eighth grade general
education bridge students deemed as 1B, 2B, 3A, 3B by the Summer School eligibility
process. These students will be enrolled in the school defined as the destination
location by the school crosswalk table provided by the Office of Elementary Areas
and Schools (OEAS). However, school status clerks ARE responsible for assigning
homerooms, teachers, and subject/course to these students.
ƒ
IMPACT is automatically enrolling any student that attends one of the four IMPACT
high schools. To clarify, those students will be enrolled at the school they attend
during the regular school year. However, school schedulers at these four locations
ARE responsible for assigning homerooms, teachers, and subject/course to these
students.
Note: IMPACT is moving all other student records to SIM Summer to facilitate walk-ins at
the elementary-level and students from SI schools who choose to attend summer session
at one of the four IMPACT high schools. To clarify, these students will be registered at
the District-level in SIM Summer and are, therefore, available for the manual enrollment
process. School resources simply need to login, search on the student ID, click the
student record, and then go through the enrollment process outlined in IMPACT training.
IMPACT Elementary schools: IMPACT process instruction for the assignment of teachers,
homerooms and students can be found at the following link:

IMPACT High Schools: Scheduling resources at the four IMPACT high schools are familiar
with the walk-in scheduling process. However, general summer school instructions for
SIM high schools can be located at the following link:

Attendance on 1st Day of Class
At both the elementary and high school level, schools will have to assign students and
teachers to homeroom and subjects/courses over the first couple days of summer school.
As this configuration work is a necessary pre-requisite to recording attendance in the
IMPACT-SIM system, first day attendance should be taken on paper and entered into the
system after teacher and homeroom assignments have been made.
General Notes for Bridge at ALL IMPACT Elementary Schools
All IMPACT elementary schools must use IMPACT SIM system to record attendance and
grades for bridge students in third, sixth and eighth grade. At the conclusion of the
summer term this information will be used to identify students that need to be retained.
Schools should not use ‘Pink Books’ to record attendance for 3, 6, 8 grade bridge
students.
Note: The process for recording attendance and grades for BILINGUAL ESL and
SPECIALIZED SERVICES ESY students is different – see next two sections.
BILINGUAL ESL PROCESS
ƒ All elementary schools: SI and IMPACT are not used for ESL services tracking. Bilingual
instructors should use CPS “Pink Books” or the attendance roster provided by OLCE to
take paper attendance for summer ESL students for the entirety of the summer
session. Student performance and grading is also tracked on paper for bilingual
students.
ƒ
IMPACT high schools must use SIM to assign students to ESL homerooms and to the
appropriate selection from the course framework.
ƒ
SI high schools will track ESL services as they have in the past as the tool has not
changed. High schools are required to enter student names and subjects in which
they are enrolled. Grades must be entered for all students attending summer school.
This is done on the SI system as outlined on page 24 of the “Planning Your 2007
Summer Programs” booklet.
ƒ
Please contact the Office of Language and Culture with any questions or
concerns related to an individual student.
ƒ
IMPACT high schools should call 3-EXCL, Option #2 with question on SIM process
or procedure.
SPECIALIZED SERVICES ESY PROCESS
All elementary and high schools must use the SI system for ESY summer attendance and
performance monitoring. Schools should not use IMPACT for this purpose. Transportation
requests for ESY students at the elementary school level will continue to be done through
ELSUMMER and for high schools in HISUMMER. Please contact the Office of Specialized
Services at 773-553-1850 for any questions or concerns.
SUMMER SCHOOL TRASNSPORTATION
SIM is not used to submit transportation requests in Summer School. Rather, the Bureau of
Student Transportation (BST) identifies the roster of students to submit to bus vendors for
potential routing. In turn, once the students have been assigned to routes and stops, BST
disseminates the information to all summer locations.

Student Records in SIM-Summer
A limited set of student demographic and services data is available in SIM SUMMER.
Historical academic performance and student behavior information are examples of the
information that is not available in SIM-SUMMER.
Note: Summer School resources are NOT to change any student demographic
information in SIM SUMMER. This includes any changes to address or contact
information. Modifications to student demographic information will be made by the
student home school at the beginning of the 2007/08 school session.
Charter Schools
As charter schools are not deployed on the IMPACT SIM solution as yet, those schools will
continue to conduct and track summer school according to traditional means.
How are we addressing Free and Reduced Meals (FRM) for Summer School students?
There is no student application for FRM service in Summer School. Rather, students are
extended the same level or service received during the regular school year. A schoolbased SIM report provides schools with a mechanism of identifying a student’s lunch
status. The Free and Reduced Meals report is specifically for Summer School. It identifies
the FRM status for each student. Output default is PDF.
