synopsis
An introduction
This story is based on Greek mythology. The Greek had many Gods. Most of them
lived in Mount Olympus and some others on the Earth. The latter were the Gods of the
Underworld. All the Gods were immortal and fulfilled certain fundamental needs, including
love and beauty through Goddess Aphrodite or even providing an explanation for what
happened to mortals after death through God Hades, ruler of the dead. God Zeus was
God of the sky and ruler of Olympus. He was one of the most important Gods.
Our story
A long time ago in Mount Olympus Zeus, the most powerful God of all, and his wife Hera
had a baby, Hercules.
Hades, the Lord of the underworld, was not happy, because he knew that this baby would
be the only one who would prevent him from creating chaos among mortals, so he ordered
his demon servant, Styx, to destroy him. Of course, a god could not be killed; gods were
immortal, so first he would have to turn Hercules into a mortal. But the demon could not
kill the baby, so she took him to Earth and left him to be found by a farmer. This man and
his wife brought him up as if he were their son. They suspected that there was something
strange about this boy because of the gold medal that was hanging around his neck and his
unusual strength in spite of his early age.
When he was eighteen, his foster parents told him the truth and encouraged Hercules to
find out about his real parents and his fate. He departed, full of hope and anxiety. He arrived
at Zeus’s temple and begged for advice. Zeus revealed himself as his real father, warned him
about Hades and ordered him to become a national hero to be able to return to Olympus.

This workpack is divided into different levels, taking into account
learners’ age and level of language acquired.
As you may notice, the same play may cater for an ample age range. This
is due to an important innovation meant to suit different students’ needs and
interests. This means that while different age groups may be viewing the same
play the various pre and post language activities in the workpack attend to a
different level.
Teachers are thus able to provide students with details about the story
and the characters before they come to the theatre, and also with follow-up
activities.
This play is suitable for students whose level of English is equivalent to
